My love for skincare has overtaken my love for make up in recent months. When I had acne I put my skin through so much because I used such harsh products that did nothing but strip my skin of anything good. Recently I turned 21 and that’s something that has definitely spurred me on to find a proper skincare routine that works for me. There are a few things I’m still missing, a proper eye cream and a nice mask but other than those I’m very happy with the products I’ve found.
Waterproof mascara can be a total pain to remove but the Boots Botanics Soothing Eye Make Up Remover makes it so quick and easy. I just put some on a cotton wool pad and hold it to my eye for a few seconds before gently wiping all traces of make up away. It does leave a slight film of oil on my skin but since I always cleanse and wash my face afterwards it doesn’t bother me at all. It doesn’t irritate my sensitive eyes and it’s so inexpensive at £2.99 for 150ml. A wonderful product and one that I know a lot of other beauty bloggers rate highly as well.
I very rarely use a scrub because I generally find them too harsh. This one is from Animal Aid and it is really quite gritty and abrasive but I do find myself reaching for it occasionally. Sometimes, more so in the winter, I find I get dry patches on my cheeks and nose & used gently, this removes all of those skin cells very easily. I probably use this once a month at the most but it smells really nice and is only £4.95 for 50g which lasts forever!
Cleansing my face is my favourite part of my skincare routine because after a long day I love taking my make up off, I love the way it makes my skin feel. I’ve reviewed this Neal’s Yard Chamomile Cleanser here and I just adore it, it feels so luxurious! I massage a small amount into my skin including around my eyes and I remove it using a warm muslin cloth. My skin is left feeling clean and supple. This is a product I couldn’t be without now. At £11.50 it’s a little pricey but a little goes a long way and I just love it.
After cleansing I like to use one of these face washes from Naked Bodycare. They both foam really nicely and I like to ensure that my skin is fully clean before moisturising. The Jojoba wash gently exfoliates without being harsh or scratchy. It’s gentle enough to use daily but I probably use it about 3 times a week. The Rose Softening Face Wash is one that I use mainly in the morning where I don’t use my cleanser. They both smell gorgeous and don’t irritate my skin in any way. These are so inexpensive at £3.99 each and they really do last for ages.
During the daytime I want a moisturiser that feels light yet fully hydrates my skin. I’ve reviewed the Rehydrating Rose Daily Moisture here and found that it wasn’t quite enough for my combination skin. A week or so ago I got the Nourishing Orange Flower Daily Moisture free in a magazine and even though I don’t have dry skin I find this really works for me. Using a little of each creates the perfect day moisturiser for me and I love it. The full size Daily Moistures are £22, which I must admit, is pricey and since my slight disappointment in the Rehydrating Rose, I’m a little reluctant to commit to that price without being sure. Neal’s Yard have been offering a limited edition 25ml version of the Nourishing Orange Flower Daily Moisture for £7 so I have two little versions to go through before I have to commit to the full size. They sink into the skin quickly and smell lovely so it’s a thumbs up from me.
For those days when my skin feels a little dryer I’ve been using the Neal’s Yard Almond Moisturiser, which I think is beautiful. It sinks in instantly and hydrates my skin perfectly leaving a lovely base for make up. It’s formulated for sensitive skin so it doesn’t irritate at all and it could be my imagination but I think this has really helped to even out my skin tone. A 50g jar costs £17.50, which I think is a reasonable price. Granted it’s more expensive than the £5 moisturiser I used to use but this is much better quality and doesn’t contain any nasty ingredients.
The newest addition to my skin care routine is the Neal’s Yard Vitamin E & Avocado night cream. I don’t like night creams that leave my skin feeling greasy for ages and this doesn’t. It hydrates my skin beautifully during the night without being too much. This is a little pricier at £19.50 for 50g but in my opinion it’s very worth it as a little goes a long way on my combination skin.
I said at the start that I’m missing an eye cream from my routine but while I’m searching, I’ve been using a free sample of the Neal’s Yard Frankincense Hydrating Cream just to keep my under eyes fully hydrated. This is a really beautiful cream and one that I would consider using during the daytime in the winter months when my skin needs an extra boost of softness. This is the most expensive at £23 for a 50g jar but again very worth it in my opinion.
My routine contains a lot of Neal’s Yard products that are fairly expensive but skincare is the one thing I’m very willing to invest in for the right products. You only get one face after all & prevention is better than cure!
What products do you enjoy using on a daily basis? I’d love to know!
