Monthly Favourites: January.

Last year I set myself a challenge to do a monthly favourites post every single month and to my surprise I managed to keep it up! I wonder if I can make it two years in a row, time will tell, but I'm going to give it a good go!

While other make up items may come and go I think I can honestly say that the Satin Primer from Illamasqua will remain in my every day make up routine for a very long time. I initially bought this solely to use with the Rich Liquid foundation but I’ve become addicted to the way it makes my skin look. At the moment my skin is very combination, leaning towards becoming fairly dry and this primer gives my skin the healthy glow that I crave without leaving me feeling oily and looking shiny. Glowing is good, shiny is bad! It also seems to work beautifully mixed with the Rich Liquid foundation, which I very nearly included in this post too. The only reason I haven’t is because I don’t feel like I’ve tested it enough just yet and it can be tricky to work with. Put
it this way, I haven’t found the best way to apply it and I wouldn’t reach for it on mornings where I only have a short time to get ready. The risk of it not applying just right would be too high but I’m going to keep working with it and I think it just needs a heavier moisturiser underneath.

I was recently sent 3 items from the new Naked skincare range and so far the stand out product for me is the Cream Cleanser
and I’ve been using it a lot this month. It has quite an antiseptic-esque scent but it’s one that I really quite like. I don’t find it drying at all which is brilliant because I hate that tight-skin feeling that some products leave. Do I like it as much as my Neal’s Yard Chamomile cleanser? No, but so far it’s coming in a close second and it’s more budget friendly!

An old favourite of mine is the Neal’s Yard Vitamin E & Avocado moisturiser. I’d stopped using this in favour of a different night cream and my skin went haywire, I think there’s something about this cream that my skin really likes and I definitely won’t stray from this again. It’s rich but it sinks in quickly and really nourishes any dryness on my skin without making other areas oily at all. I’m feeling another Neal’s Yard order is on the horizon. I can’t get enough of their products and I have quite a long list of things I’d love to try.

Rose D’Or blush from Bourjois has become my blush of the month in every way possible. In fact, my blush drawer hasn’t been opened since I got this beauty that looks ever so pretty sat on my dressing table. This is very pigmented and I was wrong when I said in my previous Bourjois blush post that I could use the shimmers with a heavier hand. I can’t, and I end up looking like a clown if I do. With a light hand though this gives the prettiest rosy pink flush with a golden sheen. Honestly I love love love this colour and can’t say enough good things about it.

My lips have been so chapped lately that I’ve only been reaching for one lipstick, which is Baby Pink from Revlon’s ColorBurst range. It’s quite sheer but it does give a pretty light pink colour to the lips while also being quite glossy at the same time. I haven’t found this drying at all and it applies so beautifully on to my less than perfect lips that you would never know how horrible they really are. I’m impressed and I definitely need to explore more of the ColorBurst line, from what I can see there are a lot of beautiful colours and I just adore the formula.

I’m sure my last two favourites for this month won’t be a surprise and yes, they are still novel to me. I have no idea why MAC does this to me but it does and it’s strange! I have to say though, I did have a lot of MAC lipsticks on my wishlist but they just seem SO expensive now after the VAT increase that I think I might knock quite a few of them off and look at other brands instead. Anyway, that’s beside the point. Vintage Selection paint pot is just beautiful and I’ve been reaching for it every day. This keeps my eye shadow on longer than any primer I’ve tried so I’m very impressed. That combined with its beautiful colour ensures this will be a favourite product of mine for many months to come!

Lastly I couldn’t not include Rose Ole Highlight Powder in my favourites because it’s just beautiful. This was quite expensive but I’m sure it’s going to take a super long time to get anywhere near to finishing it because a little goes a long way. I have never owned a highlighter before so I can’t compare this to any other brands but I adore the warm sheen this gives my cheekbones and I use it every single day I wear make up, without fail.

Did you discover any gems during the month of January? I'd love to know what your favourites were!
xoxo

  32. I love the monthly favourites, more inspiration on new things to try! The VAT increase is really hurting though. Pout Polish for £4.29? Gah!

Really want to try the Naked Cleanser but my Boots is practically Stone Age and doesn't seem to want to stock it no matter how many times I go in and stare hopefully at the shelf :D

  33. I love reading any of your make-up posts - they're so genuine and helpful. I ordered some ELF products which you have featured which I received today and will be putting into good use :). Also, went into John Lewis in Abdn and found that they stock some of the Neal's Yard range - I think the night cream may have been there.

The VAT increase does suck :(
