Monthly Favourites: February.
During the month of February I rediscovered a few products I’ve had in my collection for a while, absolutely loved some of my newer purchases and focused on getting my skin into better condition than it had been for a couple of weeks.
A lot of the time I find Illamasqua’s Rich Liquid foundation quite difficult to work with but I did reach for it a lot at the beginning of February when my skin wasn’t looking its best. I need a very good moisturiser under this and I have to mix it with Illamasqua’s Satin Primer, but it’s worth the extra work because you end up with a completely flawless base. You honestly need the tiniest amount, I probably use no more than half a pea sized amount to cover my whole face as it’s extremely pigmented and you don’t want to look cakey. When it works it looks amazing, but it can be tricky, especially if your skin is on the dry side like mine is.
The only concealer I’ve been reaching for is the Lasting Perfection from Collection 2000 because it’s simply amazing for the price. It does an amazing job at both covering redness and blemishes and also neutralising under eye circles. My dark circles are terrible and although this doesn’t cover them completely, it does a really good job that’s perfect for everyday wear and I’m very impressed. If you’re after a good pharmacy concealer that won’t break the bank then I definitely recommend this one!
My skin has been going through a super dry patch especially on my forehead and cheeks so I’ve been reaching for my Neal’s Yard Jasmine Enriching cream most days. This little miracle in a jar has worked wonders and although it’s on the pricey side, I definitely think it’s worth spending a little bit more for products that really work for you. Another Neal’s Yard product I’ve been especially impressed with is the Power Berry Facial Mask. I got a tiny jar of this in the trial sized kit my boyfriend got me for Valentines Day and this is my favourite product of the three. Neal’s Yard facemasks have always tempted me but I was put off by how much product you get for the price because I didn’t think it would last long. So far I’ve managed to get 5 or 6 masks from this tiny jar & I’ve still got lots left so I was definitely very wrong in my initial assumptions and I will be purchasing the full size when I run out of this one.
I rediscovered my Good Things eye cream during February and I definitely notice the difference when I use this. Although I’m not sure about it helping my dark circles I’ve found that it really helps with puffiness, which works wonders in making me look less tired. It’s not thick in consistency at all which I love because it sinks in quickly and works really well underneath make up. When used consistently this really makes a big difference and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to everyone.
The chocolate bronzer from Bourjois is the only bronzer I’ve found so far that looks really nice on my fair skin. I admit that I haven’t tried a lot of bronzers because I find them a little bit scary, but now I have this one I think I’ll be sticking with it. It’s a really natural colour that when used lightly gives a lovely subtle warmth to my skin which is exactly what I wanted. It also smells really nice, not that that’s particularly important, but I really like that!
When the sunshine appears I automatically reach for my peachy-gold blushers & since we’ve had quite a few sunny days on the South Coast recently, NARS Enchanted and Bourjois Ambre d’Or have been getting a lot of love from me. If I want a subtle cheek colour I’ll use Enchanted on its own & if I want a little more colour I have been dusting a little bit of Ambre d’Or over the top. The result is a pretty peachy colour with a hint of golden shimmer & I love it.
Finally, the Naked Palette from Urban Decay will probably be a monthly favourite of mine forever more because it’s definitely a staple in my make up collection. I have three absolute favourite colours from the month of February and they are Half Baked, Naked and Sin. Sin is a beautiful pinky-champagne colour that looks beautiful all over the lid and on the inner corner to really brighten the eye. Naked is the perfect colour for me to blend out other colours for a pretty and simple daytime look. Half Baked is my absolute favourite colour in the entire palette and it’s a beautiful bronze-gold that looks gorgeous all over the lid especially if you have blue eyes. If you don’t have the Naked Palette and you love neutrals then I definitely recommend purchasing it if you find it in stock anywhere!
