Monthly Favourites: April.

I took a look back on all my previous monthly favourites posts the other day. I’m so happy that I can see which products were my favourites at the time and I still use and love the majority of those products. A couple of my favourites this month are new additions to my collection and some aren’t. I know to some people monthly favourites should only contain new products but that’s not a rule I’ve ever gone by! I know I’m not alone in saying that I can’t afford to buy new things every month and you know, I’m just a normal person. I just felt like I had to put that out there, I realise I’ll probably never escape negative comments but I’ll keep trying.

Naked Bodycare provided me with some of their new skin care products quite a while ago now and at first I wasn’t sure but now I’ve found myself reaching for the Up Tone Girl Gentle Toner every single day for the last couple of months. I was using distilled witch hazel for a while in place of a toner but my skin is simply too dry for that now and that’s where this toner comes in. It contains witch hazel, which helps my blemishes, but it doesn’t irritate my skin or leave it feeling dry and tight. I really recommend this to every one, but especially if you have a similar skin type to me which is mostly quite dry and easily irritated, with blemishes and an uneven skin tone. I definitely don’t have perfect skin, honestly, the camera can tell a few white lies sometimes. Naked bodycare products are available from Boots & the Naked website.

I’ve never been a particular fan of pressed powder, loose has always been my preference mainly because I prefer its texture. It’s not all that practical if you want to reapply during the day though and since we’re coming into the summer time, that’s something I tend to want to do more. The Witch anti-blemish pressed translucent powder has fast become the setting powder I always reach for and it does a great job. I don’t have oily skin so I can’t comment on its ability to keep oil at bay but it has a lovely texture, it’s definitely translucent and it’s perfect for a touch up during the day. The packaging is basic but functional, the girlie girl in me will always crave pretty packaging on everything, but as long as it works well and doesn’t break easily then that’s the main thing. At just under £5 I'd say this is a product that's worth a try!

Beehive from 17 has to be the prettiest nude lipstick in my collection by far. The formulation of this mirror shine range is just beautiful, it’s so glossy and it looks so lovely on the lips. It isn’t too pale that it completely washes me out and it’s so easy to apply that it’s one of those you can reach for and slap on without needing a mirror. I keep meaning to go and pick out a few more shades from the mirror shine range and I haven’t managed to get around to it just yet but I absolutely will sometime soon and I think you should too!

To make the tedious food shop a little more fun I always find myself wandering into the beauty and hair care aisle. For the most part, I don’t find anything that takes my fancy but when I saw a Hawaiian Tropic lipgloss that said it had an island berry flavour I had to give it a go. This has an spf 25 (which is weird since the image on the website says it has spf 20) in it which is always a good thing, I know I never really think about spf for my lips so I’ll be keeping this in my bag all the time during the summer. Because of that it does have that slight taste of sun cream which I personally don’t find unpleasant but I can see that some people wouldn't like that. My lips feel moisturised and non-sticky, look glossy and have a sheer tint of a pinky-red colour when I’m wearing it. The tube is pretty massive, you get 20ml of product and it has a plastic applicator that makes it very hygienic. I’ve never seen any other colours/flavours in this range before but if I ever do I’ll have to purchase them too.

When MAC released their new Bremeblend blush collection I knew that I wanted to try one being the blush fiend that I am. I had been after a true peach cream blush because I didn’t have one and I’ve definitely found it in Something Special. The formulation is smooth and easy to blend & in my opinion it's quite similar to the Illamasqua cream blushers that I love so much. I quite like to apply a light dusting of powder blush over creams because even though they tend to last all day on my skin, I like to make a statement with my blush most of the time. Ambre d’Or from Bourjois is the perfect partner for Something Special because it’s not overly pigmented and it just seems to add a touch of golden shimmer, which is just gorgeous in the sunshine! They’re both beautiful and I feel that my blush collection is now complete.

My last favourite is a hair product and I don’t think I’ve really talked about hair products much before mainly because I don’t do a lot with my hair. I have fine hair that gets weighed down very easily, I have no natural volume and reach for the back combing brush way too often! The PR company for Phil Smith kindly sent me a couple of products that promise volume for me to try out and so far this is the stand out product for me. I’m not someone that is willing to spend a ton of time blow drying my hair with a round brush because I don’t have the patience. I’m more of a flip my head upside down kind of girl and this is the kind of product I love because it does all the work for me. The Phil Smith Xtreme Style Xpanding Thickening Cream is a fairly thick cream that you rub through towel-dried hair from root to tip before blow drying. I use a pea-sized amount and concentrate the majority of the product at the roots. I have no idea how this works but it manages to give me volume. It’s not volume that stays in my hair until I wash it, I don’t think any product would be able to deliver that, but it definitely lasts all day if I do this in the morning when I wake up. As soon as I sleep on it my hair goes as flat as a pancake so all you ladies with beautiful thick locks should feel very lucky! Most importantly I can’t feel this in my hair, it doesn’t leave it looking greasy and I don’t feel the need to immediately wash it out so it’s perfectly fine on the second day. It smells kind of like coconuts to me which I really like, it’s not an obnoxious scent that’s too powerful, it’s subtle and seems to linger for a nice amount of time. The packaging is beautiful, hello bright pink, it stands out on my beauty shelf I just really love it. At £3.99 for 100ml I think it’s a total bargain because you’re only using the smallest amount every time. Phil Smith, I love you!

  3. I've never seen that Hawaiian tropic lipgloss before, it must be quite handy on the beach! Ah I'm tempted to try this Bourjois blush, all of the orange/peach blushes I own so far don't suit my skintone at all :(

I feel like the witch powder can make oiler skin look overly powdery and abit unnatural when blotting oil.

  18. The Witch powder sounds really good, I've got an Urban decay one which I love, but it's a loose powder and the Witch one would be so much more practical for my handbag. Something special from MAC looks lovely as well, your blogposts always makes me want to go out and buy everything! x

  23. I've got nudist peach and belle from that no17 lipstick range and they're both lovely colours but the colour barely shows on my lips and i find them a bit too glossy. i tend to use them more as lipbalms throughout the day rather than as a full on lipstick!

I keep hearing great things about the witch make up range so I think I'll definitely be trying that x
