Face of Today: Spectacles Galore & Super Smiles.

Without my glasses or contact lenses I can barely see anything at all & I've lost count of the number of times people have asked me why I haven't gone to get laser eye surgery yet. I happen to really like wearing glasses and I love being able to make a statement with them hence my love for these frames!

Over the last couple of weeks I had been gradually losing my love of blogging but just as those super negative feelings were beginning to impact too much on the decisions I was about to make, my faith in everything good was restored by such a beautiful and truly wonderful lady! Kate is probably one of the nicest people I've ever known & I wish that I knew her in 'real life' because I have no doubt that she would be an amazing friend! There aren't many people that would buy a birthday present for a complete stranger and I'm completely over the moon that she thought of me when she saw this.

How completely adorable is this necklace? It's so me and I would have purchased it in a heartbeat for myself if Kate had sent me the link. I can't believe she actually bought it for me, it was ridiculously generous of her to do that and I think she's so lovely. She's the definition of a good egg!

Although it's probably a bit ironic to say this on the end of a make up post, Sailboat is no longer going to be solely a beauty blog, not because I dislike the community because I absolutely don't, I still think it's amazing, but because that's not just what I'm about and I'd love for this little piece of the Internet to reflect all of me a little bit more. But if you'd like to stick around then hopefully the next year will turn out to be a pretty exciting one!

Three Years.

Today is mine and my boyfriend's three year anniversary. We haven't done anything fancy, choosing to get cracking with painting the living room in the house that will one day be our first home together instead of going out for a posh dinner.

Long distance has brought with it many ups and downs but I wouldn't change a single thing for the world. The hard times make the lovely times even lovelier and if nothing bad ever happened you wouldn't really fully appreciate the good times. 

There's always a little shining light at the end of the tunnel and although it can sometimes take a little while to get there, this has been one of those things that are worth waiting for.

Happy anniversary my lovely, here's to the future & many more years full of smiles and happy times.

Five Things I Love Friday 009.

One.  Freshly Washed Sheets.

There's not much that can beat the feeling of snuggling up in a comfy bed with sheets that are freshly out of the tumble dryer. I wish there was such a job as a professional sleeper, I'd be so so good at that! On a side note, I also wish I owned that bed!

Two. This bunny picture!

I have a serious bunny obsession and I love that everyone knows about it! Gem tweeted me this SUPER cute picture and I adore it. Look at those fluffy feet and adorable nose! Too cute! 

Three. Ice Tea. 

I don't know why it tastes so good but it really does! My absolute favourite flavour at the moment is peach and I'm pretty sure that during the hot weather this summer, if we get any, I'll permanently have a glass of ice tea in my hand. Yummy! 

Four. This Aldi advert! 

Whoever thought up the concept for this advert is nothing short of a genius. It's so simple but it makes me laugh so much! That is absolutely my sense of humour. I love it! 

Five. Bubble Baths.

I'm not a shower lover at all. Shampoo or soap always gets in my eyes and it's always either too hot or too blimmin' cold! Bubble baths on the other hand are super relaxing and I have been known to fall asleep in the bath from time to time. Oops! That really can't be good!

Favourite Photographers: Ori Gersht.

One of my absolute favourite series of photographs is 'Rear Window' by Ori Gersht. Shot through the same window at different times of the year and at varying times throughout the day, the images show the ever changing skies that sit calmly above bustling London.

With no fancy schmancy filters or editing used, the images are completely natural and capture the true beauty of the skies above us that we may not notice as we go about our daily lives. This in turn somewhat challenges our relationship with the surroundings that we may consider to be completely familiar.

If the theory or meaning behind the images isn't really your cup of tea, there's simply no denying that visually they're all completely beautiful and manage to capture a lovely sequence of events while ensuring they keep every single drop of their charm and magic.

Ori Gersht is a huge inspiration to me and if I could one day take a photograph that's even half as beautiful as one of his pieces then I'd be a very happy Jennie indeed!

Face of Today: Coral Crush.

Today the sunshine came out to say hello and I thought it was a peachy-coral kind of make up day. After weeks of reaching for the same pink shades it’s surprisingly refreshing to really warm up my make up with peaches, corals and golds.

I’ve never been a fan of flat hair but I’m really really trying to ease off on the backcombing, which is how I normally get volume in my locks within a matter of seconds. I know, it’s not good for your hair at all so I’m trying to be good, I promise! Today I decided to dig out my Babyliss Glamour Waves curling tong to try and get a bit of texture and definition through my boring boring BORING hair. And I think it worked! I don’t have the attention span to sit in front of the mirror sectioning off my hair and perfectly curling each piece so I just found my parting and at random curled pieces of hair about half an inch wide. It was super quick to do and although heat isn’t the best for your hair either, a good heat protectant will work wonders. I hope.

Eyes: MAC Vintage Selection Paint Pot, Urban Decay Naked Palette – Sin and Half Baked & MAC Haute and Naughty Lash Mascara.

Half Baked is my absolute favourite eye shadow colour to wear from the Urban Decay Naked palette. Orangey-golds look so pretty on absolutely anyone I think, but especially on blue eyes. Plus it’s a perfect summery colour!

I haven’t got round to trimming my fringe, so even at the risk of people sniggering & pointing and laughing about how MASSIVE my forehead is I’ve been pinning it back in a little braid. I’m kidding, I’m sure people don’t point and laugh at my forehead…well, I hope not! It’s just a teeny tiny insecurity of mine that I’m trying to overcome. So far it’s not working but I’m getting there…slowly! But I think little braids in your hair are so ridiculously adorable that I had to give it a go myself.

How do you achieve volume in your hair without backcombing? And if you could only pick one blush colour to use for the rest of your life, what would you pick?

A Review: MAC Haute & Naughty Lash mascara.

The promise of a freebie is often very difficult to resist and a few weeks ago I was tempted into making a little order with MAC to receive a free Haute and Naughty Lash mascara. I succumbed to the temptation and a couple of days later I had a shiny new cream blush and a mascara to play with. Hooray for new make up! I think I’m far too easily pleased.

I like the concept of mascaras like this. It’s not new by any means, but it is quite new to me. Before I got this, Collection 2000 Big Fake mascara was my favourite and honestly, it still is because I don’t think it can be beaten in terms of performance for the price. Mascara is a product that I buy every two to three months and I can’t justify, nor want to have to spend a lot of money on one. I do love the packaging a lot, the purple sparkles are my favourite and I just think it’s fun.

Just like regular mascaras there is one wand, the different handles just vary the amount of product is left on the wand. When you twist the pink handle the wand is pulled through the tube attached to the purple sparkly handle so very little mascara remains on the wand. When I pulled this out and looked at it I thought it seemed far too dry and I didn’t think it would perform well at all.

When you twist the purple sparkly handle the wand is not pulled through a small inner tube so a lot of mascara is left on the wand. When I pulled this out I looked at it and thought ‘wow, hello clump city’! I like big lashes but I thought that I might find this super difficult to work with.

My suspicions of finding the purple wand with lots of product difficult to work with were confirmed to a certain extent. While the first coat I applied to my eyelashes was clumpy, I actually quite liked the results I got. My natural eyelashes are rubbish, I have blonde hair and so the majority of my lashes are quite light and they’re not very long so mascara for me is a must. After one coat my lashes were left looking much longer and far more defined. Normally I would have stopped there but I was curious to see if I would be able to apply a second coat with the purple wand without my lashes clumping together, but as you can see from the picture, I definitely can’t. There is just SO much mascara left on the purple wand that a second coat is impossible for me. I like clumpy lashes, but not to that extent.

I was wrong when I assumed that the pink wand that looked like there was hardly any mascara left on it wouldn’t do anything for my lashes at all. I found this much easier to work with and I was very surprised at the results even after one coat. The second coat left my lashes looking pretty much exactly how I like them; I find they look very similar with this mascara and my favourite Collection 2000 Big Fake mascara.

Overall I was left feeling pretty happy with Haute and Naughty lash. Two coats using the pink wand or one coat using the purple sparkly wand left my lashes looking long, full and really defined which is what I want my mascara to do. It wears really nicely throughout the day and it rarely smudges on me, which is incredible because I have ridiculously sensitive and watery eyes. At £17.50 this isn't cheap so although I like it and I think the packaging is lovely, I can't see myself repurchasing any time soon.

What I Wore: A Chilly But Sunny Afternoon.

Separating this dress and me this summer is going to be nigh on impossible. It’s my perfect dress. It’s a gorgeous deep blue, it sits just below the knee, it cinches me in at the waist and it’s got the perfect width straps. I honestly think if I could have this dress in a bunch of different colours I’d be sorted for the summertime and I’d be a very happy Jennie.

For some reason the sunshine has disappeared for the time being in my little part of England so I’ve dug out my trusty trench coat, which manages to look good over any outfit! This coat is probably my favourite Primark purchase because it fits so well and I can’t have paid more than £13 for it. Occasionally some little gems pop up in Primark, you just have to be there at the right time to grab yourself a bargain!

I’m kicking myself for not purchasing a back up of Viva Glam Cyndi lipstick because I’m head over heels in love with the colour. I’m sure there’s a good dupe out there though and I’m determined to find it!

Hopefully my outfit posts from now on will have much better lighting since my new room is much bigger and brighter. These pictures have been lingering on my hard drive for a little while now and I'm not sure why I never managed to post them earlier. I’m excited for the super warm weather to arrive so I can explore the beautiful Derbyshire Dales. I know that you should never compare yourself to anyone else but I just adore fashion blogs who have lots of beautiful pictures in gorgeous locations and I wish I could be at least half as glamorous as they always look! I'm bringing my boyfriend along to take some photographs for me and hopefully he'll use his photography talents to make me look pretty!

Five Things I Love Friday 008.

One. Happy Memories.

Finding these photographs has inspired me to dig out my old film camera and start using it again. I never print out my digital photographs. Never. They just sit on my computer or on my hard drive doing nothing. I rarely look at them so it’s almost pointless that they’re even there. Film photography is a completely different thing to me altogether. There’s something so completely magical about the thrill of going to collect your films from the developer, taking them home and looking through them. I always find at least one image that I’d forgotten I’d taken and it takes me back to that day. I’m going to find and go through every photograph in my house and organise them into pretty albums. In a sea of digital this and digital that I’m determined to hang on to my analogue photographs.

Two. My charm bracelet.

I have a few pieces of jewellery that I especially love but my charm bracelet will always be super special to me. Every single charm is significant and I'll continue to add to it until it's completely full of memories and markers of momentous occasions in my life. I have a couple of charms I need to add, a golden bear that I've had since I was tiny, a sailboat to symbolise both my love of all things nautical and my little place on the Internet & a bunny that was given to me by my boyfriend when I adopted Ralphie. I love that when I buy my first house, get married, have a baby or whatever else happens in my life I know I'll be able to add to my charm bracelet & have that forever as a keepsake and a visual representation of how I chose to spend my years.

Three. Ikea.

Even though I have a hatred of almost anything that comes flat packed I can never resist a wander around Ikea and a glass of lingonberry juice!

Four. Milkshakes.

I have no idea where I got these cute little elephants but I'm completely in love with them. I wish I had a flair for interior design, but I don't, so instead I'll just continue throw things together that I like and hope for the best!

One. Pilot Bear. 

I bought this for my boyfriend ages ago because he likes planes and I like bears!  I totally couldn't resist and I love that he's kept Mister Pilot Bear for all these years!

Two. Rainbows.

We've been having some super odd weather over the past few days. One minute it's raining and the next it's beautiful sunshine! Oh England, I wouldn't change you for the world!

Three. Memory Walls.

I can't wait to finish my bedroom so I can put up all my pictures to make everything feel much more homely and finished. I don't know what I'd do without my photographs, there are so many memories locked inside each and every image that I don't ever want to forget!

Four. Butterflies. 

I'm not even sure why I have such a fascination with butterflies, I just think they're so beautiful and they have such beautiful journeys! 

Five. This Super Cute Maison Scotch Sweat Top.

For years and years I'd never leave the house unless I had a nice outfit on which was so silly of me! I don't think there's anything as comfortable as wearing sweat pants and a hoodie, I only wish I'd discovered this sooner! Silly me! This sweat top from Maison Scotch is pricey but it looks super cute!

I've moved & it's my birthday!

So, I've moved! Well, I'm in the process of moving and I'm probably attempting to co-ordinate removal men, a million boxes and several large pieces of furniture while trying to keep a bunny entertained and figuring out how to turn the electric on without breaking anything as you read this! Oh the wonderful process of moving house, it's really not fun at all and I have no idea why some people choose to move every few years. It's way too stressful for me to cope with! So although I've not managed to reply to as many comments as I would have liked, I'm still alive, I'm still here and I hope to be around properly again very soon!

After being over 200 miles away from my boyfriend for the majority of our relationship, I am now just a five minute walk away. Yeah, I did googlemap that and yeah I'm a total loser for doing that but 200 miles to 5 minutes is a big and very lovely change! I'm also just an hour and a half train ride from my lovely family who live in York so now it's actually possible to pop up and visit them for the day. Obviously my grandparents aren't getting any younger and I missed out on a lot when I was growing up because we lived so far away, but now I'll be able to visit them more often which will be so lovely!

If this post actually does go up when it's supposed to, I never fully trust the scheduling system, then today (Saturday) is my 22nd birthday and although my life has just been flipped upside down, I really couldn't be happier! Hopefully very soon I'll be tweeting away on my very own iPad, which before I get any 'omg your so spoiled' comments, I will be paying for mostly out of my own money! Having my boy in my life properly is honestly the best birthday present ever & it's our three year anniversary at the end of the month so I have a feeling that May might be very good to me!

Five Things I Love Friday 006.

I'm sat at my boyfriends lovely iMac writing this post on Thursday and hoping that it will post when I schedule it to! Tomorrow is going to be a ridiculously busy day and I didn't want to miss this weeks post but please forgive me if it's a little jumbled!

One. Skittles sweeties.

I ate these almost constantly on the drive from Bournemouth to Derbyshire and they're pretty much the best thing ever. My favourite skittles are the red ones! Is it sad that I have a favourite skittle colour? I hope not! Although I think we all know by now that I'm secretly still 5 years old!

Two. Turquoise.

I'm too indecisive to pick a colour that I can honestly say is my favourite but turquoise would have to be up towards the top of the list. Maybe it's because we're getting closer to summer but I've become obsessed with anything turquoise. I'm even deliberating painting one wall of my new bedroom turquoise! Hello obsessed! 

Three. Penguins.

They're just super adorable and baby penguins are especially adorable! I remember when I was in Primary School and we all had to make a little story book I wrote mine about a baby penguin having lots of fun in the snow and I decided that they all lived in igloos! Primary School was the best! 

Four. Being back in the countryside.

I can't lie and say I'm not going to miss living beside a beach, but I can say that I'm not going to miss living beside Bournemouth beach. Bournemouth gets completely packed with tourists every summer and it's no fun at all! I adore the English countryside, it's completely stunning and I can't wait to learn to drive so I'll be able to do lots of exploring and go on super photo adventures! 

Five. Vegetarian sushi.

I don't know what it is about veggie sushi but it just tastes so completely amazing! I wish Yo! Sushi wasn't quite so expensive because I'd love to go there at least once a week solely for the yummy kaiso salad! I wish they sold that by the bucket load, it's my favourite thing ever! Thankfully maki is fairly easy to make and I just know that I'll be making lots of that now that I've figured out where I can buy the ingredients! Om nom nom!

Tag: How much is your face worth?

Thankfully I have some posts already written, like this one, because although I had planned to write some I've barely had the time to breathe over the past few days! All will be explained soon, although I'm sure that most of you already know, but if I don't manage to comment on your blogs or reply to comments please stick with me - I'll still be reading for sure! Okay, so there's no escaping the fact that that’s a lot of money and my boyfriend will laugh at me for this but I’ve definitely seen worse! I’m not a big eye shadow person, I’m not good at applying it and when my eyes are open no one can really see the shadow, so I prefer to spend a little extra time and money on face products. My make up is never flawless and if you saw me in the street most days you’d never think I was a girl with a beauty blog!
