A few things I have learnt lately.

I have pinched this post idea from the beautiful Nicola from Our Little Balham Life - I just love her and I so wish she could be my in real life BFF! It would make my entire week if you would pop over and say hello to Nicola! Yesterday she posted 10 things that she had learnt recently and I thought it was a genius idea to write them down! I recently heard someone say 'we learn from our mistakes, but if we do learn something from them, then they're not mistakes'. I needed to hear that for sure!
//. I'm a firm believer in everything happening for a reason, but sometimes I have to put my foot down and help create my own destiny.

//. Snow is beautiful. The resulting slush and ice is definitely not, especially when you slip on said ice carrying a laptop and a camera, fall arse-over-tit and end up in a pile on the floor somehow managing to save said laptop and camera but ending up with a bruised you-know-what. Ouch. It's a good job I stopped taking myself seriously years ago or my ego would have been a bit bruised too.

//. Procrastinating is bad and I should never do it. Ever. But I know that I will and therefore I have to start things extra early to account for all the potential procrastinating I will ultimately do.

//. It's always a good thing to take time to write down exactly what I want to do with my life and it's more than okay to invest in the dream that I didn't even realise I had such a passion for.

//. Sandwiches are pretty much my favourite food. I am officially Joey from Friends. There are just so many good options for sandwiches - they're different every time, like baked potatoes which I think are my second favourite food! ;)

//. Although sometimes it's difficult to make ends meet, I am so lucky to have a nice home and a beautiful family. Feeling loved is the best thing ever.

//. Finding something positive in every situation, even when things aren't so great, is a million times better than trying to figure out every possible thing that could go wrong so I'm not surprised or disappointed when things don't work out. It would have been nice to know this when I was a teenager.

//. I'm almost certain I'm going to get a tattoo this year. And I think I will get bitten by the tattoo bug and before I know it I'll have more than one.

//. It's okay to be a little bit of a lone wolf and enjoy your own company.

//. I would really, really, really like a penpal!

Have you learnt anything recently?
I would love you to share in the comments!
xoxo

  1. This is such a good post idea! It's so easy to get caught up in things that have gone wrong and not take the time to learn from them.
Excited for your potential tattoo - they are addictive!

  4. This is a good post! And I can relate to the majority of it which isn't a bad thing at all. You should definitely get a pen-pal, I write letters to friends when I'm away at university and it's one of the best things ever. Receiving letters in the post I find so cute and I love the feeling of writing! xx

and it's always ok to have times when you aren't feeling great, it means you can come out of that time and realise what needs to change.

  8. I love Nicola and her blog, she really is my BFF, she just doesn't know it yet ;) Great post Jennie. I think the biggest thing I have learnt recently is 'I am good enough'. Sometimes when I doubt myself and I get knock back after knock back I start to believe I don't deserve nice things to happen to me, but I keep reminding myself that I am worthy of good things to come into my life. Oh and I remember having pen pals so well. Back in the day before the internet and any type of social media, pen pals were the only way you could communicate with like minded people and there is nothing better then having a beautiful, handwritten, piece of stationery plop onto the doormat. Bring back pen pals I say! x

  9. Oh my I completely agree with Kay! I have really been trying (sometimes failing - but that is okay too) to treat myself with kindness and compassion recently. Feeling that 'I am good enough' is not something that comes straight away, it takes time and effort and constant attention but I know that we are all good people at heart and we are definetely good enough, and more than enough and even more than more than enough!!!

"It's always a good thing to take time to write down exactly what I want to do with my life and it's more than okay to invest in the dream that I didn't even realise I had such a passion for."
Investing in our dreams is the scariest thing but like you say... writing everything down and giving yourself space to dream the 'impossible' is really the most wonderful thing we can do for ourselves...

I hope that that ramble up there makes just one bit of sense!!!!
I love this post and thank you so much..

p.s I have three tattoos at the moment and getting my fourth this year!!! Do it!

  10. I'm 100% sure you'll get many more tattos after that first one. I'm currently saving money for my third and I can't wait to get it. I'm so sad people don't write letters anymore, there is something very special about that piece of paper when you know somebody held it in their own hands and to actally see the ink the've used to write those words for you. I've tried to do it with a girl from America but I got just one of her letters and she got all of mine, so I guess she was doing something wrong. I was a bit sad, but you should definitely try it :)x

  12. Jennie – you always have this way of writing exactly what I’m feeling. You know I haven’t had the best time lately, but it only took me to see things from a different angle for me to finally realise the problem was more in my mind, than in reality. Life can be cruel and horrible at times, but it can also be lovely and full of wonderful surprises.
I’m glad you put this down into words, because I am forever the self-doubter (even today I had a little sad moment) and its times like this I feel reassured to know I am not alone in feeling this way.
I would love to write to you … though Char is a fabulous pen pal, she’s really lovely. If you ever want to, you know where I am xxx

  35. This is a lovely idea for a post. :) I actually have suddenly found myself interested in getting a tattoo, but only concern is that my mind changes so often it may be too 'permanent for me'. I had a German penpal around three years ago, not sure how/when we stopped talking come to think about it..

    1. I think you have to be completely sure about a design before you get it. Print it out and put it on your wall, somewhere you look every day and if you don't get tired of looking at it, then you can think about getting it tattooed! xo

I so see what you're saying about everything happening for a reason but needing to make steps yourself too, I need to do that as well. I feel like I am just kind of floating by right now.
