February Non Beauty Favourites.

In my eyes you can never really go wrong with a pair of cosy slippers with owls on and I would even go so far as to say if it were socially acceptable to wear these all day every day, I totally would. These were a Christmas gift, I believe from New Look, and I love them very much!
I made these! I am so pleased with how these little guys came out, even if I did almost sew my fingers to them on more than one occasion. These were the result of my first encounter with a sewing machine in many many years, I remember having to do textiles at school and I was awful at it but with a bit of perseverence this time I managed to make these mini owl pillows. They have been sitting proudly on my bed for a little while now and I've even gone out and bought my own sewing machine (it's pink!) so I can attempt to make some more. Sometimes crafty afternoons are the best things ever!
Bunny Night Light♦ (£4.95)

This little guy is from DotComGiftShop and there are no words to describe how cute he is. He has taken pride of place on my bedside table and I think he looks lovely, especially considering how inexpensive he is. There's also a slightly smaller bunny night light that I have my eye on, it seems only right to have a pair!
Nikon1 V1

The newest addition to my camera collection has been in my bag pretty much every single day. I had been after a little point & shoot digital camera for a little while because some days I really don't feel like carrying a big DSLR, but I did want one that would offer me a little more control. This isn't as small as perhaps I would have liked, but you can interchange lenses which is a huge plus for me. I also love the way it looks, which ultimately is pretty irrelevant but I can't help it!

Pyramid Necklace
Love Hearts & Crosses is one of my all time favourite online jewellery stores. The sheer variety of pieces stocked never ceases to amaze me & if there's something you're looking for, you're almost guaranteed to find it nestled somewhere on the site. I've been really loving wearing a simple black skater dress with this pyramid necklace recently. I seem to be going through a bit of a black clothing phase and I really like how this necklace perks the whole outfit up a little. It's one of those 'go with anything' pieces I think, lovely!
The Photography Book. (£5.95)

Just because, well, we all need a little bit of inspiration every now and again, don't we? This little book has been pretty much everywhere with me and to be honest, I have a lot to thank it for!
YOU!

Honestly, you're my favourite every month, but especially this month. Thank you, so so much, for such sweet comments/emails/tweets about my last post. I know I've still not managed to get back to some of you but I will, I promise! It was one of those 'I'm not sure if I should really post this' kind of posts, not because of anything in particular, but you just never know what kind of a response (if any!) you're going to get and you know, your kind words mean the world, they really do. Thank you!

What were some of your non-beauty favourites this month?

Remember to turn on the light.

The world works in mysterious ways sometimes and although I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, sometimes understanding those reasons aren't as easy as you'd like them to be. For a little while I had been struggling with how to even begin to be okay with losing something I didn't even know I had and the consequent realisation that I didn't even really know I wanted it until I'd lost it. Confused? Don't worry, I am too. I don't feel sad or angry or bitter, well I did at the time, but not anymore. Now I'm mostly just confused. But also oddly positive and uplifted because now I know that if one day I'm lucky enough to have it again, it'll probably be the best time of my life, ever, and I can treasure it and enjoy it without having to worry if it's the right thing. Because it will be the right thing. And not having to worry about things like that makes everything about a million times easier.

Hashtag vague.

I love you.
Thank you for always being there!

McVitie's Breakfast Biscuits

I’m slightly ashamed to admit that breakfast time in sailboat land was pretty much non-existent. Don’t get me wrong, I love breakfast food and I’ll happily munch on pancakes, a veggie fry up or toast & jam at any time of day, just not in the mornings when I always opt for those extra 15 minutes in bed and then spend the next twenty minutes frantically dashing around trying to put together an appropriate outfit and slap on some make up when all I really want to do is wear pyjamas all day and leave my hair in a top knot resembling a pineapple on the top of my head!

Skipping breakfast isn’t good for you, I know this, yet I still did it for years and then I wondered why I had no energy and ended up stuffing my face come lunchtime, usually with one too many unhealthy things! Thanks to the new McVitie's Breakfast Biscuits I’m not stood at the bus stop freezing my you-know-what off with a grumpy face at 7am and a growly stomach, but instead stood munching on something that tastes yummy with a strong cup of tea in a travel cup I didn’t even know I owned, feeling much better!

Admittedly I was a little sceptical that 4 biscuits would keep me full until lunchtime, but I was proved wrong, they do. And they actually taste really nice, even better when dunked into a good cup of tea or mushed up & eaten with yoghurt (it tastes nicer than it sounds!)! There are a few different flavours to choose from, which is nice because variety is always a good thing and I’m looking forward to trying the sultana & cinnamon particularly. You can find out more by following @McVitBreakfast on Twitter and over on the McVitie's Facebook page including hints and tips for how to conquer the morning battle ground!
Thank you McVitie's for saving breakfast for me, I appreciate it!

Lately.

It almost feels a little bit like I'm stepping into uncharted territory opening up the 'new blog post' page. I've had a little break from the Internet and I must say it has been wonderful to wake up and not immediately look at my to-do list, see what's happening on twitter or check my emails, which incidentally I am now extremely behind on, so if you're waiting for a reply, I'll get to it I promise!

Taking a break from things, even from something you love to do, is sometimes very necessary and I think one of the easiest ways to find out if you do really love something is to stop and see how long it takes you to miss it. A few days in I was itching to sign in and empty my thoughts into a blog post, I love to blog, it has very much become a part of me and I wouldn't change that. The Internet can be a funny place sometimes. I think that sometimes people seem to forget their manners and become necessarily rude or overly critical without being constructive just because they're not face to face with the person they're talking to. But there are real people, with real feelings that read that comment at the other end and those feelings can be hurt. It's sometimes even more hurtful when those rude comments are about or directed towards someone close, who isn't a part of the whole bloggersphere and that's why I try and strike a good balance between being open and honest here but also protecting those that I love at the same time. I don't often feel the need to defend myself, but just to set the record straight. When I moved to be with my boyfriend, I didn't just up & leave my beautiful Mama behind in a place she wasn't happy, in fact she came along for the adventure and is now very happy in a beautiful home less than 30 seconds walk from where I'm sitting right now and I see her every single day.

I've been feeling a little sad recently. Not sad because something terrible has happened, just sad in a feeling lost sort of way. It's very easy on the Internet to read about someone's life and think 'wow, they're so lucky, I wish I could do that or live there or look like her' and although that's completely normal, I don't think it's something that should be thought about too often. I'm a firm believer that it's okay to take some time to feel a little bit sad, to wallow a little and to have a little cry, but I guess I just got too caught up in feeling blue that I forgot to remember the good things, you know? I watched the Perks of Being a Wallflower the other evening and as I was sobbing my way through it, something clicked and I knew it was time to change.

Yesterday I had a spring clean, I put up my new polka dot curtains and spent the afternoon really thinking about everything I would like to achieve in the near future and instead of then putting those thoughts to the back of my mind and carrying on as I was before, I started to plan. I now have lists, notes and inspiration absolutely everywhere and I'm excited to get started. Achieving dreams isn't easy, it takes time, perseverance and a few tears, but if you love it, it will all be worth it in the end.

Anyway, it's wonderful to be back. I'm excited to catch up on your posts and say hello again!

February 2013 GlossyBox: The Valentine's Day Edition.

After a very awkward, sleepy conversation with the delivery man involving my sleeping habits and why I had toothpaste on my face (it's a bloody spot remedy, okay?!) a GlossyBox was thrust into my hands, which I wasn't expecting so early on in the month, but it was a lovely surprise. It has also given me another reason to avoid doing my University work for a little bit longer, which I don't need because I am the queen of procrastination but it's still very much appreciated nonetheless. I am the worst student ever.
February 2013 GlossyBox♦ (£12.95)

This month's box is very cute, the floral bow design is lovely and I shall definitely be using this box to store something in. Sorry Ralphie, looks like you'll just have the outer box to chew on this month! The product information is in the same mini-magazine paper format as last month and I still think this looks & feels a little cheap. I do really like the layout, I just think if it were printed on glossy paper rather than plain paper it would feel a bit more luxurious. That's probably just me being picky.

I also really like the little GlossyBox heart shaped lollipop as an added extra, although I must say when I opened the box it was heart side down, the stick was hidden and I totally thought it was a GlossyBox condom. Yeah. It's not. I'm glad it's a lollipop, less awkward! This was one of those stories I probably should have kept to myself...

SASSOON SPRAY SHINE. (50ml sample)
Hair products never really excite me but I am always on the lookout for products that promise to give shine to the hair. I've always been envious of you beautiful brunette's whose locks are super shiny no matter what because my blonde, super fine hair is just a bit crap in comparison to be honest! The Sassoon Spray Shine promises to give revolutionary shine, we shall see about that. First impressions are that it doesn't smell very nice. A full size 250ml bottle retails for £14.89 making this sample worth around £3.

ANATOMICALS YOU NEED A BLOOMING SHOWER BODY CLEANSER. (150ml sample)
I read a lot of comments when an Anatomicals product was included in a previous month that thought the packaging was rude and obnoxious & I definitely think some of their wording needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, but I can't lie, sometimes it makes me giggle. I liked the scrub I received previously and I'm sure I'll enjoy their You Need A Blooming Shower body cleanser, mostly because it smells like rose and I LOVE rose! I like the bright packaging and it's nice to receive products that you know you'll actually use. I can't say Anatomicals will ever be a must have brand, but I do think they have some nice affordable products. A full size 300ml bottle retails for £5 making this sample worth £2.50.
MeMeMe FAT CAT MASCARA. (Full Size)
Always being on the lookout for a good volumising mascara, I'm very much looking forward to giving this Fat Cat Mascara from MeMeMe a go. From first impressions the brush looks really nice, it doesn't seem to get overloaded with product and it's not so big that it would be difficult to work with. This is a full size & retails for £7.99.

MICABELLA MINERAL EYESHADOW. (1g sample)
This loose mineral eyeshadow from MicaBella Cosmetics is in the shade 'intelligence' and it looks absolutely stunning in this little pot. It's super shimmery and dark enough to add a touch of smokiness but still light enough to not be overly dramatic. I've never heard of MicaBella before but I'm definitely intrigued by the brand because all their products promise to be kind and gentle on the skin. The full size 2.5g shadows retail for £14.95 making this 1g sample worth around £6.

MINERS COSMETICS LIP COLOUR. (Full Size)
Lastly we have another make up product, this time a lipstick from Miners and this is in the shade 'Dreamer'. When I first looked at it in the tube I thought it would be a really unwearable purple pink with a lot of shimmer & although this is definitely on the frosty side, the colour is a much more wearable pink shade than I first thought. I don't think I'm going to love the colour on me, but I'm definitely going to give it a try & see if I can make it work. This is a full size & retails for £3.99.

Overall I really quite like this month's box, it definitely beats the January box for sure just because I know that everything here will get used & it was nice to get a few new make up products to play around with.

February Wish List.

So if someone could invent a money tree one day very soon that would be wonderful, give me a call if you manage it! Although I definitely don't need any more make up I can't stop myself from doing a little bit of online window shopping & don't pretend you don't do it too, I totally know you do!

The Dior lip balm has been on my wish list for a very long time but I've told myself I have to use up all my other lip balms before I'm even allowed to think about buying it! I've also had my eye on this Chanel lipstick for a little while, but again, I'm not allowed to buy it until I've used up at least 5 other lipsticks. That may take some time though, I am apparently unable to use up any make up product! Sadly I'm on a total blush ban, but if I weren't I would snap up this blush/lip product by Aerin quicker than you can say 'ooh that's pretty!'

Mary Berry is a complete and utter delight. Her love of what she does is so inspiring and even though I will never been even half as good as she is at baking, she's taught me that it doesn't matter - I just need to give it a go and most importantly, I should always have fun with it!  I definitely want to get my hands on her Baking Bible & it will take pride of place in my kitchen!

And finally, well, it's happened. I have found my ultimate dream glasses. Unfortunately for me they're £200+. But oh how I love them so! I need to find somewhere I can go and try a pair on and if I love them I think I may ask for them for my birthday. That's a little while away, but I feel they'll be worth the wait.

What are you currently lusting over?

John Greed Jewellery Valentine's Day Blogger Challenge.

John Greed Jewellery are running another fabulous blogger challenge, this time all about Valentine's Day & if you love jewellery as much as me, this is one you should enter! I've had a lot of fun snuggled in bed on this cold & snowy afternoon putting my entry together & I think you should too! All the info can be found here & the grand prize winner will receive every item included in their entry! What a lovely treat in time for Valentine's Day!
Within the hustle and bustle of everyday life it can be all too easy to forget to stop, just for a second, to look around and to truly appreciate how lucky you are to have everything that you do and to have those people in your life that make it extra special. Nobody is perfect, but I absolutely believe that one of the keys to happiness in life is to not only surround yourself with people who make you happy but also to tell them how much they mean to you, every day. I don't mean that you have to confess your undying love to them every second, because lets face it, that's a bit odd, but surprising a loved one with breakfast in bed, coming home with a box of chocolates just because, sending a quick 'thinking of you' text, or organising a dinner with friends are all small things that make a huge impact.

You know, it's just nice to be nice! And that's why I love Valentine's Day. It's not about extravagance, it's not about all the gifts in shops plastered with hearts. It's about love, sentiment and appreciation, not just between you and your other half, but between you and everyone in your life that means something to you. I know I'll be sneaking little Ralphie and our Pup a few extra treats when the 14th rolls around because they make every day just that little bit better & even though they won't understand why they're getting extra treats, they definitely will appreciate it anyway!
Excuse the huge image, I didn't want lose the detail because all of these pieces are SO pretty!
SIMON CARTER KEY PENDANT.
It's almost 5 years to the day that my boyfriend and I spoke for the very first time. Is it a bit odd that I remember that? Probably! I remember sitting & writing him a letter (we were in a long distance relationship at the time) and brace yourself for a cringey story here, I drew a truly terrible picture of a key next to a heart and wrote 'you will always have the key to my heart' underneath. Yep. I totally did that. And then posted it to him. Oh the embarrassment. But you know, I was only 18 and the sentiment was, and still is completely true. I'm convinced he still has it somewhere and it will reappear one day and I can be embarrassed all over again. As soon as I saw this Brushed Platinum Plated Key Pendant from Simon Carter I was instantly transported back to that day 5 years ago and it made me smile.

VIRTUE LONDON PEARL RING.
My mama is without a doubt the very best friend I have ever had and it's so comforting to know that she's always there when I need her, no matter what. She knows when I need to hear a bit of advice, when I need a hug and when to just sit and listen without saying a word. Her birth stone is the pearl & I've always thought it was completely perfect for her. Pearls are simple and effortlessly beautiful while being understated and classic, just like her. This Virtue London Sterling Silver Pearl Ring is something that I adore and I know my mama would too because it has touches of vintage edge while being something you could wear every single day.

SWAROVSKI PROVENCE PENDANT.
Whenever I see this colour anywhere, I always think of my Grandparents. Their marriage, their strength and their love for each other is a constant source of inspiration for me. I have so many happy memories of baking during summer afternoons with my Grandmother and helping out in the garden with my Grandfather. My Grandmother has a beautiful ring very similar to this Swarovski Provence Pendant, given to her by my Grandfather that she has worn every single day for as long as I can remember and when I was small I used to sit and admire it while listening to stories from when they first met. They are both completely adorable and those memories are ones I will treasure forever.

TALIA PEARL EARRINGS.
A few years ago my other Grandmother gave me the pearl necklace she wore on her wedding day along with a few beautiful photographs and one day, if I'm lucky enough to get married, I hope to wear them too. These Classic White Pearl Earrings by Talia would match perfectly as well as being something to wear daily to always keep my Grandmother close.

ESTELLA BARTLETT ANCHOR NECKLACE.
My Grandfather was in the Navy during his younger days and I think he is where I get my love of all things nautical. Although he is unfortunately no longer with us, I'm reminded of him every single time I click on to my blog, which is one of my proudest achievements and whenever I see anything with an anchor on my heart feels instantly full and I can't help but smile. My Grandfather always had a twinkle in his eye so this Estella Bartlett Crystal Anchor Necklace stood out to me as soon as I saw it in all its sparkly glory. It's completely perfect.

PILGRIM HEART BRACELET.
Pilgrim jewellery is a favourite of my boyfriend's mama and I can see why, it's simple & non-fussy in style but effortlessly beautiful and elegant. This Pilgrim Simple Being Heart Bracelet is something I know she would absolutely adore. I feel like the fourth heart charm on the bracelet because I feel super lucky to have been completely welcomed into their little family with open arms. My boyfriend's parents have instilled such admirable qualities in him as he grew up and it's been lovely to really see exactly where each quality has come from, over the past 5 years as I've really got to know them.

DANON SILVER HEARTS BRACELET.
It is the two different hearts placed together on this Danon Silver Heart Bracelet that really drew me to it. As completely overly-sentimental of me as this is, to me it really represents the coming together of two different families. I can't tell you how happy I am that my family and my boyfriend's family get on and seem to fit together so perfectly, I'm not quite sure what I would have done if we didn't think in similar ways. I'm a huge believer in what's meant to be, will be & this piece reminds me of that.

I had such a lovely time putting together this post, sometimes sitting and reminiscing is a wonderful thing and I hope you didn't mind listening to my musings!
I think this is a completely wonderful challenge from John Greed & I think you should enter too!

A Few New Things - Beauty, Clothing & Home!

Seriously, please don't let me buy any more blush! I think I have enough to last me for my whole life & then even possibly a whole new life after that! I blame ASOS entirely, I always have a look at their beauty section & just before Christmas I had a little splurge. The Illamasqua Blush Duo with Lover & Hussy caught my eye as soon as I saw it and I just had to have it! NARS Orgasm & NARS Deepthroat are both real cult favourites and even though I put off buying them for the longest time, I finally caved! The Stila Convertible Colour was a bit of an impulse purchase I must admit, but the colour, Gerbera, was screaming out at me and I love it a lot!
Last for my ASOS splurge was the Benefit They're Real mascara. Yep, I caved and I bought it. I have a real issue with spending SO much money on a mascara that I'm probably going to throw out in a few months, but this had been getting so much hype I had to give it a try. I like it, but I don't think I love it like I was expecting to. For some reason, and I haven't seen anyone else with this problem, it smudges on my lower lashes throughout the day. I think I have weird lashes! If you've been thinking about trying it, I would say go for it, it's worth trying at least once!
MUA Blush. // MUA Lipstick in Juicy. // MUA Undressed Palette

I won the beautiful Lauren's giveaway a few weeks ago and I just wanted to mention these MUA products becuase I absolutely LOVE them! I'm always blown away by the quality of MUA make up and the best part is, everything is so affordable! This lipstick in the shade Juicy is going to be one of my go-to lip colours for Spring! Thank you so much, Lauren! I absolutely love everything!
I popped into Boots to get my beloved Collection Lasting Perfection concealer but they didn't have any, so I had to settle for something new. I went for the Bourjois Healthy Mix concealer and I have to say, I'm not loving it so far. It seems to really stick to dry areas on my face and it doesn't blend very easily over my skin, which is odd because I love the matching foundation. I'm going to keep working with it though & I think I'll like it more in the summer time.

I picked up a skin essential for me, the Avene Rich Hydrating cream and since I purchased this a little while ago, I've almost finished the tube already! I can't get enough of this stuff, it's a real life saver for my skin in the cooler months. Lastly make up wise, I picked up another Natural Collection Pink Mallow lipstick just because they're super affordable and this is a colour I always keep in my bag. It's easy to wear and I like the formulation of it.

My mama bought me this super cute bunny jumper, I think from a local boutique but I'm not entirely sure. You know me, anything with bunnies on it I will love and I've been wearing this non stop for the past few weeks!

I've been seeing lots of cute painted initial letters on Pinterest, which I'm totally addicted to and I have to thank it daily for helping to decorate our home, and I had to get some for either above the fireplace or for our huge side table that needs filling with cute little decorations. I got these from ebay and they were only a few pounds each. I'm not going to link the seller I used because I'm not that impressed with them, they don't really stand up on their own so I'm going to have to stick them down somehow, but there are SO many choices that pop up when you search on eBay, you'll definitely find some if you want them.

I've been searching for a super simple, delicate gold necklace for the longest time and I finally found the perfect one from Love Hearts & Crosses. I like that it's non fussy and just looks lovely with everything! I've actually got a super sweet Love Hearts & Crosses giveaway coming up tomorrow so be sure to check back then!

Okay, phew, last thing! Another thing I can blame Pinterest for is my sudden want for a pair of clear acrylic glasses. I've found my dream pair here from Prism London but they're a little out of my price range at the moment so I toddled over to Etsy and found SO many pairs of vintage glasses. I pretty much want them all! These are from a seller called MOD Vintage and I can't recommend them enough! I completely appreciate that these aren't going to be everyone's cup of tea, but I've figured that if I have to wear something on my face all of the time, I'm allowed to have lots of options! A I have to go for big frames because I have a giant moon face & small glasses look so silly on me!

I've included my new video here, if you'd like to watch. I would love you to because I'm really on a bit of a video making roll at the moment. I am loving it! I hope you're having a lovely end to the week. It's the first day of a new month and the sun is shining, I'm super happy! ♥

Have you purchased anything new recently?
