A few disappointing products...

It's not often that I'm left feeling disappointed with a product. I tend to read a lot of reviews before I buy anything new and as I get older I'm definitely getting increasingly more particular about the things I try. Sometimes though there are products that can work amazingly well for seemingly everyone else, but for whatever reason they haven't wowed me. That's not to say that I think they're terrible because they're absolutely not since they work so well for so many, and for the most part I'll still use them, I just wouldn't repurchase.

Benefit They're Real Mascara | £19.50
This was in my last disappointing products post, but I was convinced into trying another tube by a friend who absolutely swears by it and to be fair her lashes do always look incredible! Sadly the second time around I still have the same feelings as I did when I first tried it last year. It still really stings my eyes and I don't think it's infinitely better at lengthening and volumising than my favourite Maybelline The Falsies. At least I know now that the first tube I had wasn't a bad batch, this is just one of those products that doesn't work as well for me as it does for others and that's okay!
MAC Lipglass Lipgloss | £14
These are incredibly glossy, they give an almost vinyl look to the lips that looks amazing but they're so incredibly sticky and gloopy feeling, which makes them feel really uncomfortable to wear. The highstreet does lipgloss really well for a fraction of the price and if you do fancy splurging on a gloss I think there are so many nicer options including the Clarins Lip Perfectors.
Rimmel Apocalips in Luna | £6.49
It took me a long time to give these a try but I finally gave in after the hype didn't seem to lessen even months after they had been released. Luna is a beautiful colour, but it's just a tiny bit too orange for me and it smells like plastic & cucumber, which makes me shudder a little. I know that a lot of people absolutely love this range though, so don't let me put you off trying them if there's a colour that appeals to you!

NARS Blush in Orgasm | £21.50
This has to be one of the most talked about make up products and although I like it, I don't love it as much as I thought I would. It's a really pretty pink with warm undertones, it has a little bit if shimmer in there that's not overpowering, and it lasts really well throughout the day. It just doesn't wow me and I think there are other colours within the NARS blush range that are much prettier.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo(+)* | £15.50
The original formula of this has been mentioned so often in the bloggersphere over the last few months so I was pretty excited to try the new and improved version. I was hoping that it would really help clear up and perhaps even work to prevent blemishes, but unfortunately it didn't do anything for me at all. It's not often that I'm left feeling really disappointed with a product but I have been with this one.

Are there any products that have left you feeling a little disappointed?

  2. Pretty controversial list, since you're talking about the bloggers favourties! ;) I completely agree on Benefit's mascara - I used to hate it completely, but after coming back to the tube when it dried out a little bit I've found the formula easier to apply. It is still a major pain to remove though. I personally love NARS Orgasm, it just suits my complexion whether I'm tanned or a pale face. Effaclar Duo(+) is OK I guess but I think it's over-hyped, it didn't change my life completely. Great post Jennie!

  3. I love these sorts of post - it's so easy to forget that no product will work for everyone.
I totally agree on They're Real, and I wasn't a fan of the Rimmel Apocalips I tried, either. Strokes for folks, and all that! :)

  4. I really don't like the Benefit mascara either - so you're not alone! The only positive I find is that it does stay in place all day & doesn't budge, but dislike so many other factors that it just isn't worth the price to me! Also 110% agree on the Apocalips - why must they smell so bad?! Yuck. I've barely used mine for that very fact, also find them quite drying after a while too xx

  7. It's a shame the Benefit mascara didn't work for you. It's probably still my favourite mascara I've ever tried, but it just goes to show that everybody's different!
I couldn't agree more on the MAC lipglosses though - they literally feel like putting glue on your lips, eurgh!

  8. Totally agree with the mascara, plus it has that rubbery stretchy formula when applied which I hate. I like my lashes to be fluffy and soft! J x

  9. I've never tried Effaclar Duo (not even the old one!) but I swear by Benzoyl Peroxide for clearing my skin up, even though it's a little harsh. I like to use that along with aloe vera gel at the moment, and it's working pretty well! I hate gloopy, sticky lipgloss too - not nice! xxx

  10. I hate those MAC lipglasses too. They look nice but as soon as I get outside my hair just sticks to it. I hate that.

I do, however, like that Benefit mascara. It makes my eyelashes look awesome. The thing is, though, I find that at the end of a full day of wear, it starts to hurt my eyes. I have a long haired cat too and his fur always gets stuck to my eyelashes when I wear this stuff. It's also hell to get off, even with Benefit's hellishly expensive make up remover.

I might have to try that Maybelline mascara.

  12. I'm sorry that these products didn't work out for you. The only product I tried from this list is Benefit They're Real Mascara. I had the mini size. At first I didn't like. It didn't really gave me great lashes but I let the mascara dry up a bit. It was then when I start liking it.

  13. I could not agree more about the Benefit Mascara! All it did was hurt my eyes, and my eyelashes were not that great afterwards either!

  14. I completely agree about the MAC lip glass lipgloss - not a fan at all! One product I can't seem to get on with is the bourjois healthy mix serum. I think I've tried the original and the serum one and can't get on with either of them. They look great on everyone else and smell so nice but I think its the scent that my skin hates. Which is a shame cause I really wanted to like it! :( Paris x

  19. I have to agree with you on the Benefit They're Real Mascera. I had so much hope for it as I had heard good things but they just left my eyelashes looking cake-y, heavy, and just not exactly attractive! I much prefer Maybeline's Mega Plush or 17's Va Va Voom. xx

I tried a sample size in the mascara awhile ago and the wand felt so uncomfortable to use and it didn't make much of a difference to my lashes either so I'm glad I didn't buy the full size striaght away, and I just can't get on with my apocalips, I love the colour but the texture just feels so strange! xxx

I must say I find the Rimmel Apocalips a wonderful product, with none of the stickiness that the MAC lip glass seems to have.
