Holiday festivities with SPAR Wines

Written in collaboration with SPAR wines

As my last post mentions, I had absolutely no idea that SPAR were so renowned for their wine collection, but they have won many awards so they definitely know what they're looking for when they are choosing wines to add to their collection. I'm the first to admit that I don't know very much about wine; I have no idea which wine goes best with particular foods, but I also don't think there should be any rules when it comes to food and drink. Having fun with it is the most important part and we're going to be incorporating three different wines into our holiday festivities this year.

To accompany our cheese selection we have a bottle of 2014 Chateauneuf-du-Pape from Les Trois Couronnes. This has some really interesting notes, with creamy strawberry balanced with other floral and spicy notes. I'm not sure that it has fully converted me to red wine, which isn't my favourite, but it's not as overwhelming as others I've tried in the past. Anyway, I'm not sure why I'm even pretending that I'll get much of a look in with this one because there are certain family members that have had their eye firmly on this bottle for at least a week now!

Chablis generally pairs well with fish and seafood (I think?!), but I imagine we'll be saving it for an evening in front of some terrible Christmas TV and a selection of dark chocolate coins, because it just wouldn't be Christmas without them. And in my mind, everything works well with a bit of chocolate!

We have definitely already made it though one bottle of Prosecco (we couldn't resist!) and it comes highly recommended by all of us. We've already tracked down a SPAR and replaced our original bottle, which we may end up saving for New Year's Eve, and I also bought a couple more as extra gifts because I think the bottle looks so elegant. They told us that this particular Prosecco has been very popular this year and I can certainly see why. It's only £9 but looks and tastes much more expensive than that.

We left everything until almost the last minute this year, mostly because work and University life has taken up a lot of our time, but I think our Christmas preparation is finally complete! A huge thank you to SPAR for gifting us some wine and sponsoring this post - we didn't know anything about their extensive wine selection (or that we even had a SPAR not that far from our house), so it's been really nice to discover something new to round off the end of the year.

  1. I love myself a fancy bottle of wine - but just like you I have no bloody idea what the difference is! I just know what I like once I taste it and pick wine based on how fancy the label looks. Didn't realise Spar even sold a selection of nice wines to be completely honest - will have a look next time I'm in town:) Have a lovely Christmas Jennie xx
