These aren't really resolutions as such, it's more of a list of goals, things for me to work towards over the year that may end up changing and if that happens, then it's okay.
+ There are currently a lot of empty frames and pictures that need to find frames piled up on our kitchen table waiting to be hung up. It's one of those things that we've been putting off because I think we were both a little tired of constantly doing things around the house. We still have a seemingly never-ending list of things to do, some are more long-term things (i.e. they're crazy expensive and we need to save for them or the disaster that is spare room that we don't really use so we're using it for storage at the moment!) but getting some more pictures printed and hanging them up is something we can totally do this year. We definitely want to have a gallery wall somewhere too, we just need to decide which wall to use. I think once they're all up it'll also make the place look a lot more homely & personal.
+ I almost want to set myself a crazy goal but I think I'd be too focused on reaching a specific number than on finding books I really want to read and I'd be disappointed if I didn't reach the number, which in the grand scheme of things, wouldn't be that important anyway. So my goal is to read as many books as I can squeeze in throughout the year

+ It's taken a long time (*ahem* twenty four & a half years) but I've finally realised that things, unfortunately, don't organise themselves - I actually have to put some effort into it. I'm venturing out to paperchase this afternoon to buy some new pages for my filofax and I'm actually going to use it properly this year. To ensure I do use it properly I'm also going to get a nice pen and some stickers to make the pages pretty... essentially I'm bribing myself to be more organised with pretty stickers. Totally reasonable I think ;)
+ Even if it's just a picture or a few words that mean something to me that day, I don't think that everything has to be perfect all the time. This is one I'm hoping will feel a little less daunting when my life is more organised as per above goal! I've shoe-horned the word almost in there because I don't want to post something if I feel like I don't have anything to say or to share. After reading the comments left on my blog survey, there were some that particularly resonated with me, which I will talk about in a post shortly - they were all so helpful, the good and the bad so thank you if you filled it out for me! Some of them left me feeling a little bit...scared almost of my space here. But I'm trying to remind myself that I can't please everyone all of the time and all I can really do is make this a space that makes me happy and hope that you like it too.

+ In posting daily, there's so much opportunity there for me to experiment with content and it's almost like I'm giving myself permission to have a little bit of fun with trying out some things that perhaps aren't so much in my comfort zone. I did make videos for a little while but there are so many people that make the kind of videos I was making about a zillion times better than I ever could, so I stopped. It didn't register at the time that there were so many other kinds of videos I could make so we'll see how that goes next year. I'm not going to tell myself I'm going to make a video a week or anything, I'm just going to have a play around and see what happens!
This is a bit of a silly one, but after reading back a few posts from this year, I appear to severely overuse the word super. I don't often use super in everyday conversation so I'm not sure how it's become such a fixture in my blog writing! There are lots of other words that mean something similar that I could use instead, maybe I should reach for a thesaurus a little more - unless of course something is actually super like supernoodles or superman or supercalifragilisticexpialidocious... (I definitely did just watch Mary Poppins!)
+ Lastly, next year I'd like to do more. Whether that's getting things done around the house, trying something new that I've never done before or going on more mini adventures. I've lived in Derbyshire for a few years now and I still haven't been inside Chatsworth House, which is silly because I've wanted to visit for absolutely ages. Hopefully gone will be the days of me putting things off for good...!
Do you have any goals you're going to be working towards achieving next year?
Love, Jennie
P.S. Stay safe this evening and have a wonderful time! ♥
Wow! I love these. Hahaha the one about the "super" cracked me up. Great post! Xo
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you from Lace and Lipstick Stains
hehe thank you! xo
DeleteGreat goals for the year :) I'm going to post up mine tomorrow morning! X
ReplyDeleteOoh I'll pop over to have a read :) xx
DeleteOh, I really like some of the goals you have here! I definitely need to get out and do more too, since I'm always planning to try new things but never get around to it. Happy New Year, by the way! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, you too! <3
DeleteGreat list! The bit about the word super made me laugh x

hehe! xx
DeleteGreat 'resolutions'! They all sound fairly manageable as well - sometimes I think people set unrealistic goals and when they realise they're not going to meet them it puts them off!
ReplyDeleteI am so with you on the reading more books thing, I used to always have one on the go but not anymore...will try to change that this year too!
Happy New Year!
xx
Wee Bit of Rachel
I used to be guilty of this too, hopefully these are pretty achieveable :) xx
DeleteI try to pick and choose when I take my camera now because I'm a huge shutterbug and was getting complaints from my other half. Funnily enough a lot of the times I didn't take my camera people were asking if I had pictures. Hard to find a balance! I've wanted to kind of make videos as well, but seems there's a lot more criticism on them so I'm kinda scared.
ReplyDeleteIt is very difficult to find a balance, hopefully we'll both achieve it this year. Ahh I know, beauty videos especially seem to get a lot of not-so-nice comments xo
DeleteI totally agree with being more organized and reading more books! Def some things I want to do in 2014!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a lovely NYE

DeleteGood goal Jennie. I love that New Year is a chance to gear up for a change, even if it is a bit of a cliche. Will look forward to following along with you over the next year, I hope its a brilliant one for you! xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Laura! <3
DeleteI am the same, I have so many photos that I love tucked away in drawers and on my computer. I need to get them framed.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realise you lived in Derbyshire, what a gorgeous county. My friends got engaged at Chatsworth 5 years ago & have just welcomed twins into their family

Ohh how lovely <3
DeleteThese are some lovely goals, I think sometimes it's a nicer word/idea than resolutions as that word can make you feel a bit pressurised (or it does me anyway!) <3
ReplyDeleteI definitely want to get more organised this year too, these last few months I've gotten way too lazy!
Wish you a very happy New Year & all the best for 2014 :-)

ReplyDeleteI definitely need to visit, it looks so stunning and the grounds are beautiful! xo

DeleteI'm going to make a real effort to read more in 2014, I hope I can keep it up :) I'd love to see some more of your photography in the new year because it always makes me smile so much! Oh man, I think I use 'super' a lot too - oops, it's not really intentional! Happy New Year lovely and hopefully I'll be dropping you an email soon, I've been doing a little research for our story and I'm feeling pretty positive! <3 xxx
ReplyDeleteOoh I'm so excited!! <3
DeleteThis is such a good list of a wide variety of goals! I'm usually a person that focuses on every day being a new start, but with a new year I think there's something to starting a fresh calendar or agenda that just makes you feel different. I'm hoping to read more as well!

DeleteI love all of these goals Jennie! Taking more pictures is also on my list this year. The reading one resonates with me too, I am actually not going to set a goal this year and just read books I want to read not worry about how many I am getting through. Happy new year!! xx
ReplyDeleteI think that's a lovely idea <3

Happy New Year lovely! xo
DeleteI am also guilty of using 'super' on my blog but not in real life - as pointed out to me by my boyfriend. I'm thinking I'll start using it in real life rather than stop on my blog as I actually really like the word haha!
ReplyDeleteI'm also totally guilty of bribing myself with stationery, but that's fine!
This is a lovely little list, Jennie - I hope 2014 is a truly wonderful year for you! :)
Jess xo
