May 2014 Glossybox* (£10 + p&p) |
Superdrug, a beauty retailer here in the UK, is celebrating its 50th birthday and Glossybox have teamed up with them to put together this special edition box. The theme is the 'summer beauty edit' and each box will contain at least 4 full sized products along with a few extra treats. I do like the concept, I like that each box will contain some full sized products and it's really nice to open a box that's totally packed full of beauty goodies.
But there's something about it that isn't quite as exciting as I was hoping for. When I think of 'summer beauty edits' I think of pretty highlighters and peachy bronze shades, so I'm not convinced the contents of my box is the best representation of summer beauty. It's nice but I'm not sure it has the wow factor.
Scholl Velvet Smooth Overnight Mask | £7.99 for 60ml (currently on sale at £5.99)
+ An overnight treatment that hydrates for up to 24 hours, to give you soft & beautiful feet while you sleep. It's an almost balm consistency that seems to absorb really quickly, which is nice. Not particularly exciting but could be good to prepare for sandals weather.
Schwarzkopf Essence Ultime Crystal Shine Conditioner | £4.99 for 250ml
+ A light-weight conditioner with liquidised crystals developed with Claudia Schiffer. I'm always happy to try out a conditioner that promises to give shine because it's something my hair definitely doesn't have naturally.
B. Sheer Conditioning Lipstick in Petal | £6.99 (currently on sale at £3.49)
+ For those not wanting the full coverage of a lipstick, but still want a soft sheen on the lips. The formula feels quite nice, it's sheer but buildable and I like the slightly glossy finish. Petal is a rosy pink shade, it's pretty and really wearable. I'm a little disappointed with the packaging, I understand it's an affordable product but I have to hold on to the twisty part of the tube otherwise the lipstick falls back inside and it's impossible to apply.
Max Factor Facefinity All Day Primer | £10.99 for 30ml
+ A primer containing micro correctors that work to absorb sweat and extend the wear of your foundation for an all-day flawless finish. This is something I will certainly try out, I like that it has an SPF of 20 but I'm not sure it'll replace my love for illuminating primers.
Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara | £6.99
+ Rimmel's first mascara with an hourglass brush that plumps and curves lashes for an iconic 60s look. This is definitely the product I'm most excited about. When I think of summer make up, fluttery lashes are a must-have. Certainly the product that fits most with the summer beauty edit theme for me!
Ghost Eclipse Perfume & Garnier Oil Infused Nourishing Lotion
There are two little sample sized products included as bonus items, which I think is a nice touch. The perfume is quite a warm and summery scent and the Garnier oil sounds really interesting so I'm looking forward to giving it a try.
***
With 5 full sized products worth almost £40, this is certainly a box that provides value for money. So while it's not the most exciting or luxurious selection of products, I can see what Glossybox were trying to achieve and I think they've done pretty well. I'm looking forward to seeing some of the other boxes because I have a feeling that this isn't going to be the best one.
Are you subscribed? What do you think of this month's box?
- Jennie xo
I think it's great that they have included plenty of full sized products, even though they might not be the most exciting things in the world! If you get some use of them, then it can't be a bad thing. It would have been nice to see some peachy blusher/bronzer and some exotic eyeshadows or something though! xxx
ReplyDeleteI agree, some summery colours would have been amazing! xo
DeleteWould love to try this primer ! greetings from Norway

DeleteI think this is one of the best glossyboxes I've seen!Tempted to buy it for the primer - great review Jennie xx
ReplyDeleteThat definitely makes the box worth it! xo
DeleteThat looks like a really good box eapecially since the primer alone is around £11 - I'd love to see a review of it! x
ReplyDeleteTotally makes the box worth it! xo
DeleteI feel like this box is 100000 times better than last month, but I agree, it doesn't fit the theme!

Such a shame, would have been amazing to have some summery colours in there! xo
DeleteI like how they provided full size products, but like you said, I'd be expecting highlighters and bronzers for this theme!
ReplyDeletexx becky / star violet
Would have made the box so so much better! xo
DeleteI saw a few tweets about this superdrug/glossybox collaboration earlier and it seems like such a good idea...I love that you get so many full size products it really looks like it's value for money! Although I do agree that the summer theme looks like it could have been pushed through more clearly perhaps :) X
ReplyDeleteA Blonde Moment
Definitely really good value! xo
Deletethis looks like a great box but agree it's not exactly the best representation of summer beauty xx
ReplyDeletemollyox.blogspot.co.uk
Would have been lovely to have a pretty highlight or something! xo
DeleteNot the most exciting box but a reading this post is a reminder I need to treat my feet before my holiday! ;)
ReplyDeleteTara x
hehe xo
DeleteThis looks like a fabulous beauty box! :) I had a feeling that when Superdrug were involved it was going to be a good one! I love the variety of the products included and the value for money is incredible when it comes to this beauty box!
ReplyDeleteMy only issue when it comes to beauty boxes like these is the fact that they vary so much between different boxes. I think that's what puts me off signing up for them to be honest.

It's a shame that everyone can't get the same things! xo
DeleteGetting so many full sized products is amazing! I've not been reading very many beauty blogs recently, so I'm definitely about to catch up on yours!

DeleteI love the sound of the Max Factor primer, I've been wanting to try that for a while. The Scholl foot mask sounds fab too. I agree it's not a particularly exciting box, though :/
ReplyDeleteJess xo
Good value, but there was just something missing I think! x
DeleteYours was so much better than mine! My stuff worked out at about £23! I got a really cheap, nasty tasting lipgloss, a cheap nail polish top coat, a cheap bronzing cream I'll never ever use, a doughnut ring, and the highlight being l'oreal volume million lashes mascara! Sorry to have brought my rage with me, but seeing just how different our boxes are has really frustrated me! I would totally have bought the box you had!
ReplyDeleteJenny x
Ohh that's such a shame! I wish all of the boxes worked out the same value wise! xo
DeleteThe Max Factor primer sounds so good - I love the foundation version of this, so it's definitely something I'm looking to pick up when I get a chance. I agree though, it's not very summery as far as beauty products go! Can't wait to see what you think of the mascara, it looks great!
ReplyDelete<3 <3
DeleteI do think the full size products are good, but I don't really get the theme either, or lack of! Slightly jealous of the primer though as I do keep eyeing it up!

Mascara & Maltesers
Absolutely, really good value! x
DeleteThis box is great! -Hanna Lei

DeleteAnother example of a blogger getting better products than us average lot! Deliberately done by glossybox no doubt
ReplyDeleteI can't really comment on this as I don't work for Glossybox, but I'd hope that this isn't the case. As far as I'm aware review boxes are processed in the same way as every other box.
DeleteThe max factor primer is great for hot Summer days! also love the foundation of this range! :)
ReplyDeleteOoh I'll have to look into that! xo
DeleteI agree that they could've made the box a bit more exciting with the inclusion of some desirable colour makeup products, but I guess you're getting your money's worth with what's inside. I'd be interested in trying that Max Factor primer - hopefully it works well to prolong wear time and provide a smooth canvas :)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely really good value! xo
Deletethat mascara sounds lovely :)

I like it so far! xo
DeleteI'm not subscribed to Glossybox but I agree that this month it wasn't very exciting. I like the look of the Maxfactor primer though, may have to look into that when I'm next in Boots or Superdrug :) xo PolkaDotLemon
ReplyDeleteIt's really nice, one I'd recommend! xo
DeleteThis box just seems kind of practical haha! I'd love to know what the Garnier Oil is like though! X
ReplyDeleteJosie’s Journal
that's a really good way to describe it, definitely very practical! xo
DeleteEven though it's not a super exciting box I would still love to try all of those products :)

DeleteAw that's a shame it hasn't got the wow factor as such, it would have been nice as it was such a special box for them to have upped their game a little. However, I am drooling over the Ghost Eclipse as I type... I am absolutely crazy for Ghost scents! <3
ReplyDeleteSophie | soinspo xo
Hehe it's a pretty scent! xo
DeleteNot a subscriber, but I can see why you might think it a little disappointing. It's not very bright and cheery! I like the lip stick though and I've literally just brought that primer to give it a whirl...!

It's a lovely primer, I'm really impressed with it! xo
DeleteI think the box looks pretty good, more than likely stuff I'd try and really like using. The thing that puts me off subscribing to Glossybox is how when it started out it was introducing people to higher end, more expensive brands that we hadn't really heard of, but I suppose they are doing this one with Superdrug!
ReplyDeleteCatherine, xo // Lady Liquor
They definitely seem to have changed direction in recent months! xo
DeleteThis box seems fantastic. In Australia we have Bellabox, which i am contemplating buying each month! This makes me want to give it a whirl! <3 love this post! mishmsxo
ReplyDeleteThey're fun to try! xo
DeleteIt's a shame the concept wasn't quite represented with this box. It seems quite a vibrant design.
ReplyDeleteI've never tried Rimmel mascara. Do they work well? I like the shape of this brush. The conditioner sounds promising as well.

I find a lot of Rimmel mascaras to be really wet, which I'm not a fan of because they never seem to dry properly on my lashes. This one is really nice though! ox
DeleteIt looks like a good box, but like you said, maybe not super exciting. The primer sounds interesting though!
ReplyDeleteIt's the one thing that has really impressed me! xo
DeleteMy box included the million lashes mascara instead if the primer. It was a lot better than recent boxes and good value for money.
ReplyDeleteLoved the fact that the collaboration was such a closely guarded secret until dispatch day.
GlossyBox (for me) is still about high end products.
Definitely really good value for money and I liked the idea of the collaboration. I think if they'd just left the theme there I think the box would have worked but because they promised summer beauty too, I was a little disappointed. Generally I don't mind whether they include high or low end products, as long as the boxes are good value! x
DeleteHmmmm...it has got great products indeed. I have not tried to subscribe to any beauty box for I am afraid of being disappointed. I have heard so many thins about these beauty boxes and most of them are not so good so my decision is to pass on beauty boxes.
ReplyDeleteThey're definitely very hit and miss! xo
DeleteI've just received my May Glossybox and I'm really disappointed with it. Yours is much better in comparison but still pretty disappointing nonetheless, I think they've completely missed the theme whether or not it's good value for money or not :(
ReplyDeleteLou Barker xo
Ohh that's such a shame! I was hoping for a really good month, the idea was there but something hasn't quite worked ox
DeleteI agree with you for a Summer Box, I'd think it would contain products for a sun-kissed glow, a bright nailpolish or even a floral perfume. So to me this box was abit of a let down. Thanks for the honest reviews love your blog! Hope you are all well this May!
ReplyDeleteEloise | simplynaturale xo
A pretty highlight or bronzer would have been amazing! xo
DeleteWhat a wonderful box, Jennie! The products seem amazing and I'm dying to try Garnier Oil Beauty. Will you be posting a review later? :)

DeleteIt was def one of the better boxes, that primer is amazing, a total dupe for MAC's strobe cream xx
ReplyDeleteBean's Beauty Blog
I'm really enjoying using it, definitely my favourite thing from the box! xo
DeleteI'm really surprised that the Superdrug box wasn't cruelty free, given that Superdrug has a really positive anti-animal testing policy!
ReplyDeleteThey sell a lot of brands that don't have such strong policies though! x
DeleteI got different full size products but was still really happy with my May Glossybox. The only thing I wish I had was the foot mask - it seems like that was one of the winning products this month!
