Dear October,
You remembered to bring some of my most favourite things with you, thank you!
Mornings are shrouded in a thick blanket of heavy fog before soft beams of sunlight manage to navigate their way through, gently stirring me from my slumber like a soft whisper of hello, good morning, rise and shine, it's time to start the day, in my ear. Darkness sneaks up from nowhere and envelops the evenings in a long lingering embrace, prompting me to reach for my favourite pyjamas and that cosy blanket I've been looking forward to bringing back out from the cupboard since I put it away at the end of spring. It's the best kind of embrace, the kind that I'm often reluctant to leave. Rain drops reassuringly tap - tap - tap on my window as I fall asleep, reminding me of just how lucky I am to be safely tucked up inside a home so full of love. A mug of hot chocolate with extra marshmallows is encouraged no matter what time it is. The box sitting in the wardrobe that's full to the brim with winter warmers will be opened again very soon. And I may be another year older but you bet I'll be wearing my Gryffindor scarf again all winter long.
Most significantly of all though, you found my inspiration whilst you were away and you returned it to me upon your arrival this morning. And gosh, I really couldn't be more thankful. I may have even shed a few tears of pure joy as I was furiously scribbling little notes and jumbled thoughts into my notebook at 2am. There have been so many words trapped inside of me all summer and I couldn't figure out the right order to arrange them in to let them out. I'm getting there now though. Typically it would be as the rest of life starts to get busier, but I'll certainly take it anyway - even if it does mean a few hours less sleep each night!
It's a gift that no amount of thank-you's will ever cover.
Just know that I'm so grateful. Truly. For everything.
With love,
Jennie
I love that you wear your Gryffindor scarf :-) I have one but put it on display - maybe I should wear it instead! I'm also pleased that your inspiration has returned.. I know I love October and all the wonderful autumnal things that are associated with it. It can sometimes feel quite magical if we let it xx

DeleteYou are a really good writer, Jennie. Your words express perfectly my love for Autumn too, especially October, my favourite month. It's just so... perfect. The colours, the sun, the wind, the crisp air. And then the hot chocolate and blanket and... inspiration. It's just something about Autumn that wakes us up again.

DeleteBeautifully written. We haven't had much in the way of rain yet--I've actually had to go out and water plants in the garden--but I have been enjoying a few crisp mornings. Oh, and the ivy growing over the garage roof is absolutely flaming scarlet! It makes me smile every time I see it.
ReplyDeletePerfect <3
DeleteOh Jennie, your post made me so happy. So glad to hear that the inspiration is flowing once more - I would have probably cried! And a big yes to hot chocolate, knitwear and a panoply of multi-coloured scarves! Though *whispers* I'm afraid I'm a Ravenclaw...xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, awwh I'm so pleased! I think we would get along perfectly - I was convinced I'd be a Ravenclaw too until I was sorted on pottermore! xx
DeleteI want a Gryffindor scarf so badly!! <3
ReplyDeleteHot chocolate is definitely one of the best things about autumn :) Hope you have a lovely October Jennie!

DeleteAaah, I love October (and autumn, in general!) for the same reasons of it being cozy and waking up and sleeping in thick, warm blankets. I'm happy that you've found your inspiration!
