Curating a somewhat minimal wardrobe.

After reading Sophie's breakdown of her minimal wardrobe I felt inspired to catalogue the pieces in my wardrobe and, I must say, the process has been far more useful for me than I thought it would be. I can't remember the last time I bought a new piece of clothing and just assumed that I was wearing pretty much everything in my, fairly small, wardrobe. Turns out I was wrong. I have a ridiculous amount of cardigans, I can't remember the last time I wore my only pair of jeans, and for someone who pretty much solely wears dresses I sure do have a lot of tops.

In reality my whole wardrobe could just consist of 4 black dresses, 4 pairs of leggings and 4 black cardigans and I'd be very happy. Whilst that may be a bit extreme, there are certainly at least a handful of pieces that I could part with and I probably wouldn't notice. We'll see.

Dear May.

Dear May,

[I'm writing this letter to you but it's really a letter to myself, to the person I know is inside of me, somewhere.]

Step outside as often as possible.
Feel the sun on your face, raindrops trickling down your cheeks, the wind dancing on your eyelashes.
It's okay to feel afraid. It's how you know you care, deeply. It's how you know you're alive. You do. And you are.
Dig those cameras out of that box in the cupboard immediately and put them on those shelves you bought and put up on the wall especially. Sure one shelf is a little wonky, but I suppose it's quite a fitting visual representation of what's going on inside your head. I think you'll always be a little wonky.
I know you've lost all belief in your work and yourself, but nothing will change if you don't try.
Make that website.
I don't know that you believe in destiny, but you do believe in making your own luck.
And I know you don't know quite how. And you don't have to believe in yourself right now, but you do need to participate.
Write + photograph.
Look, objectively.
Listen, attentively.
Laugh, honestly.
Cry, unapologetically.

It starts today. This minute. This second.
And I don't know you don't know what it is, but this is the beginning.

What are you going to make today?

Every beauty product I've recently used up, passed on, or recycled/thrown away...

...Or, at least the ones I can remember. I'm sure I've missed a few things here and there, and I'm certain I'll be able to go through everything again in a few weeks and find more things to pass on or put in the recycling, but this list is long enough already.

Over the years I watched as my beauty cupboard slowly filled up, with roughly an even split between products bought myself and products sent to me for review. Eventually, delving inside became an overwhelming task and I immediately stopped buying new things and now almost never accept things for review. After actively trying to use up everything that was still in date that I liked, giving away lightly used things that I wasn't so keen on to family, and weeding out everything I had owned for far too long, things are finally feeling much more manageable.

Writing this list has been all the motivation I need to continue to be much more mindful now with what I buy, and to really think about whether I need something or just want something.

In Search of Lost Purpose / Morning Pages.

A writer unable to grasp hold of words. Letters slip through my fingers like water. Residue evaporating so quickly it's as though the sun as I are one.
A photographer with no camera. Trying to retain the soul of images captured with eyes alone. My mind conspiring to alter them, subtly, before they begin to fade so far into the distance I cannot remember their form any longer.
A human absent for so long she had almost forgotten how to live.

But now there is noise where there has only been silence.
And it is so welcome.

It hurts until it doesn't.
It's empty until it isn't.
She's asleep until she wakes.

Noodles, Currently Watching, The Little Monster + Recent Reads | Newsletter #5

This little monster has been keeping me on my toes this week. Don't let that innocent looking little face fool you, she's been making it her personal mission to try to chew on everything she's not supposed to. We're making progress though and she's way too cute to get annoyed with. Thank goodness we still haven't got around to investing in any nice furniture though, it would all have lots of tiny teeth marks in it if we had!

Just as my trusty black flats developed a hole in the toe, Butterfly Twists offered to send me a pair of their ballet pumps. I must admit that a lot of their designs aren't quite my style, but the polka dot Kate's caught my eye almost immediately. I wasn't sure whether the fold up design would make them uncomfortable but they almost feel like slippers and haven't given me blisters. Had there been an option for plain black I probably would have gone with those, but I'm actually really liking the polka dots. They're cute.

Kabuto Noodles sent over some of their instant noodles hoping to give me some extra time during my lunch hour to do anything other than having to rustle up something in the kitchen. After pretty much living on things like this at University I never buy instant snacks any more, but these don't contain any preservatives and are fairly low in calories, fat and salt. I can't deny the convenience factor is massively appealing and they were a nice change from my usual lunchtime sandwich.

While I should have used my newly acquired free time to read a chapter or two of a book or nip over for a chat with my Mum, which certainly would have had a positive impact on the rest of my day, I actually just used the time to get a bit more work done. I've been working on a new venture that I'm really excited about so it didn't feel like work at all. I was half expecting to be finding myself wandering towards the biscuit tin a few hours later but I wasn't, so thumbs up there!

After a not so great reaction to the Vitamin E Cleanser from Superdrug and The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisturiser, I've gone back to my Liz Earle Cleanse + Polish, Dr Jackson's Oil and Sukin Rose Hip Moisturiser. If only this moisturiser were a little more hydrating because it would be perfect, but my skin is currently drier than dry and refusing to cooperate.

A Green Beauty Wishlist

It's happening, I'm going green. Or as green as I possibly can. There may be the odd thing here and there that might be difficult to part with, but I have officially said goodbye to my much loved Clarins Lip Perfectors and if I can do that, I think I might be able to do anything. Green beauty is a whole new world to me, very overwhelming but incredibly exciting. Here are a few things that have caught my eye so far.

Antipodes Kiwi Seed Oil Eye Cream
'A light eye cream to stimulate collagen production and reduce the appearance of lines in all skin types.' Sounds promising and although I'm not sure if this is the one I will ultimately go for, a good eye cream is top of my to-buy list.

Weleda Almond Soothing Facial Cream
'A creamy fragrance-free intensive moisturiser for sensitive and dry skin.' I really like the Sukin moisturiser I'm currently using, but it's not quite hydrating enough. Over the past few days I've read approximately a million reviews of many different moisturisers and I keep coming back to this one from Weleda.

Ere Perez Beautiful Beetroot Cheek + Lip Tint
'A natural stain for long-lasting cherry red colour, with rosehip extract and organic beetroot pigments to brighten your skin.' This looks like it would be a colour I would adore and wear all the time in the colder months.

Lily Lolo Coralista Cheek Duo
'A blush compact that gives the option of a natural matte finish, or a radiant healthy glow.' Something I definitely don't need but you know me, I'm always drawn to pretty cheek products. I've been a neutral lover for a long time now, but I'm beginning to be drawn towards peach shades again.

RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek in Smile
'A lightly tinted stain that combines hydration and protection with abundant mineral colour for a beautiful, natural finish on lips and cheeks'. A truly good multi-tasking product is a bit like a magical unicorn. Rare. Will it look as nice on the cheeks and it does on the lips, or vice versa? Who knows. Looks like a stunning colour though.

RMS Beauty 'Un' Cover Up
'A skin perfecting, illuminating concealer/light foundation for the eyes and face to give the skin a more youthful, radiant glow while hiding any imperfections.' Sounds perfect, give me a giant pot that I can dip my whole face into.

Ere Perez Oat Milk Foundation
'A uniquely gentle, non-greasy liquid foundation incorporating oats for a nourishing consistency with medium coverage.' Finding a foundation that sits nicely on my skin is tricky at the best of times. I did really like the Lily Lolo BB Cream but no matter how I apply it it just looks streaky and bunches on my skin, which is currently drier than a desert.

RMS Beauty Skin2Skin Blush Brush
'A unique blush brush that ensures that colour is pressed into the skin to create an airbrushed effect.' I'm not sure how unique a brush can be, but this one does look very lovely indeed.

Any green beauty advice, favourite websites, anything at all would be much appreciated!
