Watching / Reading / Listening

t e l e v i s i o n .
For most of the year I'm not a big TV watcher, but the beginning of autumn brings with it a plethora of TV dramas. It's become a bit of a tradition for my Mum and I to watch as many of them as possible together. Admittedly most of them aren't great, but it means we can roll our eyes at each other at every ridiculous plot point.

National Treasure - This was incredibly well written and made for really uncomfortable viewing.
The Great British Bake Off - I'm rooting for Candice.
The Missing - If the last series is anything to go by, this is going to be a confusing rollercoaster but I'm so ready for it!
Paranoid - Quite possibly the worst of the bunch, but we're determined to make it to the end.
Him - Not the best thing I've ever seen, but I'm only one episode in.
The Level - It's up there with the contenders for most ridiculous plot line, but we're so far in we've got to see it through.

I've been thinking about getting Netflix for a little while, but I'm not sure it would be a good move for my productivity levels. I'm also notorious for starting a series and then never finishing it, mostly just googling the end to find out what happens. I know, I'm the worst!

Next month I have a date with the cinema for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. I haven't been to the cinema in years, so I have to admit that I'm pretty excited for that overwhelming popcorn smell and some overpriced snacks.

- R E A D I N G -

Antigone by Sophocles
Antigone by Jean Anouilh
The Burial at Thebes by Seamus Heaney
Let Them Eat Chaos by Kate Tempest (if you missed it, I one million percent recommend watching this: Performance Live!)

Next on my to-read pile: Hold Your Own by Kate Tempest and illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

For a while I was doing a pretty good job of listening to a new album every day, but then I fell into a My Chemical Romance trap and I was too busy reliving my teenage years to listen to anything else. I've also discovered that I'm quite particular with the music I want to listen to and aside from a few gems, I was finding everything else I was choosing to be a little bit samey. So far this year I think I've listened to around 130 new albums, which is about 120 more than I listened to last year. I currently have Banks' The Altar on repeat, so once I've fully exhausted that one I'm going to make more of an effort to discover some more new things to listen to.

The Altar - Banks   ♥   To The Hilt, Gemini Feed, Lovesick
Femejism - Deap Vally   ♥   Smile More
Speak For Yourself - Imogen Heap   ♥   Goodnight and Go, Hide and Seek

What are you reading/watching/listening to at the moment?

  1. I love your music picks :) I've been listening to a lot of Mexico City Blondes and Roisin Murphy and watching The Fall and bake off.

  2. I am so so glad someone else likes Candice, everyone else seems to dislike her and her pout but let's have it right, she's been one of the best bakers throughout the whole competition. I'm also loving The Missing although it's one of those shows where you have no idea what's going on until the last episode!

    1. Candice was brilliant, thoroughly deserved to win!

  3. Ahh I'm anticipating Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them as well!! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's

  4. Autumn always brings so much entertaining tv, I'm rooting for Candice for bake off as well! I've only recently started listening to Banks and can definitely understand having The Alter on repeat!!

    1. I've still got it on repeat, so amazing!

  5. Eeeep! I'm really excited about Fantastic Beasts - not long to wait at all now! I hope you have fun watching it on the big screen! :) xxxx

  6. Oehhh British Bake Off <3
    You seem to be very productive in media lately Jennie c;
I need to read more books myself, sigh...
    Ice Pandora

  7. Wasn't National Treasure amazing but as you say uncomfortable viewing.

    1. Incredible and uncomfortable at the same time. Really well done.

  8. I'm also rooting for Candice but aside from Nadiya, none of my favourites ever seem to win! I'm hoping Candice will buck the trend haha xx

  9. So pumped to see Deap Vally made your list! I've been absolutely loving Femejism and managed to catch one of their gigs in London. They are brilliant live! I am the exact same with music - I find a few bands I like and listen to them non-stop, so have made an effort to listen to new music this year. I'm always on the look out for new podcasts too, so am going to check out these as soon as possible :-)

  10. I totally forgot Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was coming out! I think I'd be more interested in that that The Cursed Child just because I'm pretty sure it's meant to be expanding on the currently HP universe without it really having an effect on the characters I already know and love. At least that's my understanding of what the movie is going to be like, but I feel like from what I know of The Cursed Child it sounds really implausible and I don't like the plot twist so I'm not sure I'm ever going to bother reading it.

    1. I'd say skip reading the play but if you ever get the chance to go and see it performed, it's really magical!

Thank you so much for reading! I love when you leave your thoughts so I would love if you left me a little comment, I read every single one, they mean so much and I try my very best to reply to each one!

You are very welcome to leave a link to your blog in your comment, but please just leave one link and I ask you not to promote giveaways. Thank you for understanding. With love, Jennie May xo
