All clothes should come with pockets.

Fashion isn't my forte and, for the last few years or so, it was something I actively avoided thinking about as much as possible. I was uncomfortable in my own body, my mind tricking my eyes into showing me things that weren't real, or at the very least exaggerating things that were to the point that they became lies. I was too tall, too wide, my legs too short for my height, my hands too large, the number in my clothing indicating its size was too high. Blah blah blah.

And then, last July, I wrote 'I haven't ever been a small person' and it was as though the skies cleared. It suddenly became so obvious to me that even if some of things were, or are, true, my mind was placing too much importance on things that just, to me, really aren't that big of a deal. So what if my hands are large, with long fingers and bitten nails. I mean, you'd think they'd at least be useful for carrying lots of things at once but I'm also quite clumsy and as dropping things is one of my special talents, that's a whole different story. So what if I'm tall, with out of proportion legs and take up a little bit more or a little bit less space than someone else. And it doesn't matter which, out of all the made up numbers that humans have assigned to indicate sizes, is on the label sewn into each piece in my wardrobe. They're all bloody different anyway.

Anyway, I'm only really here today because I bought a new shirt. It's from Nomad's Clothing, one of my favourite brands, and not only is it incredibly comfortable and one of the only pieces in my wardrobe that isn't black, it has real life POCKETS! And the best part is they're not ridiculously small to the point when they become unusable; I can actually put things inside them!!

The vibe I think I'm going to aim for when styling (haha I sound as if I know what I'm doing!) this shirt is slightly witchy, off-duty art teacher. I'll let you know how it goes! ;)

  1. Love this shirt and I definitely agree that more "girl" clothes should come with pockets! x

  2. What a lovely shirt & it's a great length, I really like Nomads too!! More fashion posts too. ;)

  3. I heartily agree that every clothing item should come with pockets! I really love that dress, it looks lovely on you xx

  4. Haha I love shirts with pockets as I can hide things in them such as lip balms but I hate those chest pockets on t-shirts as well - useless.

This looks gorgeous I want one!

  5. Off duty art teacher haha! I love the little buttons that are going all the way down, they make it look really chic! I love oversized shirts once you can wear with over the knee socks at home, that's the best xx

  6. All hail the pocket!! This looks lovely Jennie! x

  7. Yesss pockets! It makes me so mad that guys get clothes with so many functional pockets and we don't.

For a long time I tried to dress to "flatter" my body but I realised that really doesn't matter because no one's body is "supposed" to look like anyone else's anyway. After that I've had a lot more fun dressing myself.

  8. Yes, someone please tell all fashion designers this!! Pockets ftw :) -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's

  9. Stuff in my wardrobe ranges from a size 6 to 16! Labels really mean nothing at all. My body looks very different post transplant and I'm covered in scars but so called perfection is overrated anyway. Beauty is so diverse and subjective too (as much as the media may try to convince us otherwise!)

It's great to see an outfit post from you Jennie, you look great plus I agree wholeheartedly - every garment should come with pockets! x

  10. I delight in anything with pockets, especially dresses and skirts. I love a good pocket. POCKETS!!

  11. YES! Clothes should absolutely always come with pockets - dresses with pockets are the dream!

  12. I get happy when I find a dress with pockets! I tend to put my hands inside it whenever I'm self conscious on what to do with my hands on social situations lol.

  13. There's nothing better than a good pair of pockets in a garment. And 'slightly witchy, off-duty art teacher' is an excellent vibe!

  14. You are a beautiful person, Jennie. Inside and out and your eternal kindness and support is what is most important to me.

I am so loving this dress. God bless pockets!

  15. I think you look lovely in this shirt and in anything! <3 I love pockets, it's annoying when it seems like an item of clothing has pockets but then you discover that they are sewn shut - why! xxx

  16. I totally agree that all clothes should come with pockets. I can't remember who exactly but one of my blogger friends wrote a post once about the sexist history of fashion and why women's clothes hardly ever have pockets, which was super annoying to find out! And it's great that you've taken your focus off of the things that are supposed to be "wrong" with your body because it's all just bullshit anyway because everyone's body is different and it's meant to be that way and there's no right or wrong. It's such a difficult thing to push yourself out of mentally, and I'm definitely still in the process of it but it's a lot more freeing to have that mindset and I really want to work towards it more.
